. I'm guessing my total run length to be at least 60' (30' there, 30' return). If I use the existing 8AWG wire with the V700 I will see a little less than 14% voltage drop just from the resistance of the wire. The V700 manual asks for 4AWG past 60' of run.

I not sure but you don't count the run twice, your run would be approx 30'
Correct me if I'm wrong

From there manual:
"Total length of cable run is from the battery to the
windlass, and from the windlass back to the battery."

I have install 2 of these V700 on my past and current boat. I thought the same as you and had to read it twice. But there taking into account, the contactor and the breaker could be mounted away from the normal path of the wire. So you could use, 24 feet of red & 20 feet of black wire. Total of 44 feet, of COURSE.

A neighbor in our marina put a V700 on his 2004 328 Vista last summer. He used the existing 8AWG wires. I was there when he did the install. It took less than 2 hours. It works just fine for his 328. Right, Wrong or something in between, the point is I have seen it done, and it does work for what he needs.

Maybe the V700 is just fine for my boat too? It claims a 175lb working load - I've just got a 35lb anchor and 40' of chain, so I would say my working weight is just 75lbs or so. I would say the V700 is the equivalent of the Concept 0 I took off, which did last 10 years or so, and with undersized wiring.
Perhaps I'm thinking too hard about this and should just get a V700 and use my 8AWG wires that exist. I'm not exactly a cruising boater that uses the windlass every night - more like once a week at the beach.

weather, here is an article that a former member and friend of mine wrote about his windlass install on a 1999 268 Vista.
Not exactly the same boat as your's, but it gives you an idea of how it is done, and how he too used the existing wiring.

Lets have some fun here! Here is a link to a wiring load chart:
http://www.windsun.com/Hardware/Wire_Table.htm

Go to the 12v table. At my first time using it, I thought it was wrong. It is showing the voltage drop of 5%, at 10% is what the Docs say is fine. Than double the distance, which is at the top of that page. The breaker is rated 35amps, I could not find a amps rating on the motor. But I will use 25amps which is a fair number.

#8 is good up to 44ft total run back & forth
#6 to 66ft
#4 to 100ft

Your run should be in the 55 to 60ft range. Now if that motor pulls more amps, you are not going to get the 175lb of pull. The voltage is going to drop, but it will run the windlass and you run the risk of burning it out due to the drop.

I am using my V700 with a 7lb anchor & 30' of chain on a V258 with #8 wire. A little different than your setup. I think Mr. aguyindallas is right, but thats just me. "thats all folks" & good luck with the install!

I'll be running new wire! 2AWG to be exact. I've decided I like the Maxwell RC8-8. Seems like a great windlass made by a company that specializes in them. Another great thing - the installation and instruction manual has one language per page. A small thing, but if you've ever read a Lewmar guide with 8 or so languages per page - you end up with a headache and likely missing some important information.
Anyway, cost double what the V700 does, on par with the V1 and have read nothing but good things about them.
Thanks for the help and idea's. Always appreciated.

Steve.
