Congrats on the purchase!

Just a curious question..... with B3 stern drives, why does it have controls like an inboards would have vs the standard stern drive controls? Is it an option or when you get to a certain size it automatically goes that way?

Interesting indeed. It "seems" that this is how they designed and equipped the 320 and up size boats. Its going to take some getting used to....thats for sure!

It will be much easier to back in this way. It helps reduce the tendancy to use the steering wheel, and let's the engines do the maneuvering.
The bonus will be when you move up to a Carver 360SS in 3 years, you will already know how to use the controls.

Surprised by a text at 8:50 tonight from my boat guy at Plano Marine.....she is delivered to my slip. It's gong to be hard as heck for me to focus at work on Wednesday and Thursday! Friday will be a day of fun and learning!

Pics to come!

It sure will take some getting used to! I not sure how you would be able to keep your hand on the wheel and shift forward and reverse and have some throttle control at the same time.

I hope there is no wind for you the first few times so you can master it!!

You do lose the throttle control with this type of set up. When I had an inboard, I used to put the gas levers on idle and just leave them there and then turn my back to the steering wheel and put one hand on each of the gear levers and walk the boat in slowly by constantly shifting the gears in and out of neutral to control the speed and direction. I rarely used the wheel or gas levers at all. This is how I dock my stern drive today but like you say, it sure is nice to have easy access to some power when the wind kicks up.
