I have a 2005 268 Vista and want to install a windlass. The more I research this the more confused i get. My boat has the up down button on the dash and a fuse in the panel and a place for a breaker, it is not there, and no windlass. I have some wiring in the anchor locker but nothing seems big enough to run a windlass. I have looked at the four winns site and see that maxwell freedom 5oo were used with an 80 amp breaker and 2 awg wire. I have read that one boater used a v700 lewmar and a much smaller wire. If any can provide info or send me in the right direction it will be greatly appreicated.

I have installed 2 v700. My last boat & this one, a V258. Most of the wiring you are finding are light wires for the contractor/relays.

I installed it as if the boat was never wired for it. I used #6 wire, the distance for me just made it. I also used a contrator to keep the heavy wiring down.

I installed a windless on our previous boat a 248. You should have everything there in the anchor locker to do so. I used the wiring for the dash switch with no issues. I put a maxwell rc800 on but had to put new wire in to support the current draw. If you go with the 500 the wiring should be ok just size the breaker for the wire and you will be fine
