Had the wife get me some Polk's (DB651's & DB691's) for x-mas. Hope they sound as nice as all here have said. Now I have to look at them in the box for another 5 months! Damn winter!!

After a few years of listening to everyone else's music I decided it was time for an upgrade. You folks talked me into trying out some polks also. I acutally cashed in a ton of hotel points for amazon gift cards and this is what I came up with.

Alpine pdx-5 (75x4; 300x1 rms)
Polk mm651s x 2 pair (15-100 rms)
rockford fosgate sub p2410 x 1 (50-250 rms)
It's been a while since I have messed around with audio stuff, so I hope this all works.

You wont be disappointed...either of you.

07H200SS - find somebody with a shop or a large garage and go put them in the boat.

Lakebum - I think you have a good setup there. I am not sure about the Rockford amp (they are typically power hungry), but the Alpine PDX is very efficient. I have a good friend who has one and is very impressed with it. As for the Polks...I have 2 pair in the boat and another pair to get put in....they rock for the money.

aguyindallas- large heated shop is easy. Have that at work. Boat is in storage though and burried among about 50 other boats in a guys barn. Not to mention I would not want to tow my boat through all the snow, ice and salt we have on the roads right now.

I'm an idiot when it comes to audio installs so I paid a specialty shop to install 6 db651's and a small 300w amp to power the back 4 (I only had 2 speakers previously). Thanks to everyone who recommended them. This other custom audio shop where they are a bit of snobs sneered when I said I wanted to have an audio install and said that they typically only do installs on "wake-board boats". Bastard. Then he quoted me only on JL Audio 4-6.5's and a small amp for a grand. My current install with 6 polks and a small amp was half that. Well worth it and glad I got what I did imo.

Congrats and all that matters is that YOU are happy with what you did and spent your $$$ on.

Newegg.com has an awesome deal on Polk mm651's right now. These are AWESOME speakers even without an amp. They are 2.7ohms (94db) so running these off a head unit can get modest volume. Highly recommended along with MB Quarts.

Installed my Polk's today. They sound great. Simple installation on the 210. The hardest part was popping off the old Clarion Covers, but the rest was extremely simple. I highly recommend to those of you who have not yet made the upgrade.

Seems as though everyone is replacing Clarion speakers...I've got the factory Sony's. Has anyone replaced these and could you hear a noticeable difference without a sub or amp?

I just bought a 09 F204 with the factory Sony's, they do distort pretty bad at high volume. Are they 5" or the 6.5"? Any mods needed to swap them out?

Welcome!

And as posted in another thread, your head unit will distort ANY speaker at high volume levels. Step 1: buy amp.

Thank you for the welcome, I have a few different amps laying around from old car stereo installs, so I'm good there. I was just wanting to make sure the size of the speaker hole. It looks like 6.5" is correct from what I have been reading.

I would post a pic but I don't see a link to do it in here...? :?:
