We had a LOT of damage given that it was really only a strong Tropical Storm when it came across Long Island, the track was about 10 miles to the west of us and the winds were not so bad, but many trees came down, we only just got our power back at 7:30 tonight, lost it Sat night about 3 AM. Getting a generator after this one. My boat I pulled, but many boats were left in and as they are all on rotating moorings here they were all OK since they can move with the wind and waves....
When you get your generator just remember to do one thing to keep it running year after year make sure the fuel has a shutoff from the gas tank to the carb if it doesn't install one. You leave it running shut the fuel off and let it keep running until it shuts off on it's own and you never have the problems most people have with their generators with their gummed up carbs. I have seen the permanent installed versions on homes and after I went through Andrew I knew that wasn't the way to go. Not really feasible to have a five thousand dollar generator system in your home when the roof has blown off definitely get a portable.
