Why? Seems if you stopped loosening your winch strap, your boat would stop sliding?

Also, that red strap in your pic that goes from the trailer to, ummm....well nothing, should be attached to the bow eye of your boat. Tighten THAT, stop loosening your winch strap and I bet your boat will stop moving. 8)

Yes, why loosen the strap? If you are concerned that the strap is tight as a drum, then get a stronger strap. I changed mine to a 10,000# rated strap. It stays very tight the whole time the boat is on the trailer. I think an H220 is too big for a 4000# strap. Any boat big enough to have a two speed geared winch could use a larger capacity strap.

Trailers do flex, and the boat becomes part of the overall stiffness by being tightly pulled to the bow stop. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

I loosen the strap to take the tension off of it. Over the years, that weakens the sewn end where it loops over and holds the hook, and it comes apart - sometimes at a not so good time. I've had to repair it a couple of times on my old boat (h200). My h200 would ride fine on the trailer without the winch strap tight, but then again, it had a double roller...

I was hoping that the h220 would work the same way, but apparently the single roller doesn't allow it, with the trailer flexing and the like. I dropped by my old mechanic, and that was his theory anyway. I'll probably upgrade to a better strap, and use the extra red tiedowns as a "safety chain".

I don't think the double roller has anything to do with it. I think your H220 trailer just has more flex than the H200 trailer.
