Searched the board here in hopes that I'd find ideas on either a home made rod holder setup or store bought that people use on our boats that doesn't need to be permanently screwed to the boat. Any ideas with pictures would be great.

No, I don't. I've been thinking of ways to build something but with a bimini top I'm kind of limited as far as placement. I know the kids and I are tired of leaning poles up throughout the boat. Just wondered if anyone here had found something that works, that can be removed when not fishing.

Not sure if you have a standard seating arrangement or not, but this is what I did for my boat. I have the two boards held down in place with a ratchet set down to the floor of the boat. My set up is for big water fishing and may be overkill if you are not trolling for salmon.
The nice thing about boards like this, you can then buy any type of rod holder that fits your needs and budget and it won't require any permanent mounting on your boat. It works great and once it is removed, you would never know it was there.

I also have Flush Mount Scotty rod holders that I use for perch fishing. These did require some drilling, but they do have a nice clean look when not in use.



In the bow, I also have Scotty Rod holders that are clamped on to the hand rails. They come right off with no drilling required. I don't have any close up pictures, but this will give you an idea. Just go to Cabella's website and you'll be able to find them. I believe I bought mine at Gander Mountain.

Here is another option for you. This is my fishing set up on my 180. It did require drilling two scary holes for the flush mount rod holders.





Once the gimbal mount rod holders were pulled out and the rubber caps back in place, you could hardly tell they were even there.

Berger, thanks for all the pics. That's exactly what I'm looking for, beautiful job. Unfortunately my 03 came with the big wrap around "U" shaped back seat so I don't have "board rests" sort of speak. May have to go with pedistal mounts inside seat storage areas, we'll see. We go after big catfish so need something strong. I got on BPShops site and saw some Scotty holders. What brand is all your aluminum hardware, rodholders and mounting posts,etc... and where did you get them? You're setup is nice and that's exactly what I'm after, I just have to find the best way to install on my 2003.

Thanks Wylie for the kind words. Go check out http://www.greatlakesplaners.com. On their website, go to the "tackleshop" link on the left hand side of the page. They have nice selection of pictures of their standard products. But, they will make anything custom for your application. I had them customize my dipsey rod holders so the bases would bolt directly on to some gimbal mounts that I already had for no extra charge. It's just a mom and pop shop and the owner is extremely nice. I think he might be able to put something together for you. From what you are saying, I bet the vertical stack holders might work for you. Good luck and be sure to share what you come up with....
