I'm no expert, but warped wood could be a result of excessive moisture on the floor. I've got that small section of pretty wood on my floor too, but it hasn't warped . . . yet. It appears to have been sealed up with varnish or polyurethane, but i also can't see the bottom of the boards.
If the polyurethane seals up the wood to prevent moisture from penetrating and warping the wood, then you may have a case of poor workmanship on the sealing of the board. Not being an expert with wood and poly; i am purely speculating as a consumer.
