Finishing things up and starting to winterize. I have less than half a tank of fuel and thinking of topping off and treating the fuel. Fuel at the marina is $4.50 and on land is $3.65. Do you fuel at the marina or on the way to storage? Let the games begin!

If you're carbureted the best thing you can do for the boat is to drain the float bowls

We spent our last night for this season on our boat last night as well. We were lifted out this morning and winterized. We are now awaiting the shrink wrap guy.

To your question....I stabilized our fuel and both tanks are about 1/4 full. On different boating forums I have read, there are numerous points for storing with tank(s) full, tank(s) empty and whatever is in them is fine.

I made my choice.

I've always stored full, no stabil. Much easier on the wallet with the 268, and land gas prices! I took on 100 gallons two weeks ago when I topped off for the season. $4.29/gallon.

Yep, heard a hundred different theories. I have a half tank in mine, poured a whole bottle of Sta-Bil winterizer in it, ran it for a bit, shut er down, removed battery and thats how it will go to storage. I have lots of experience with other motorized machines and I have stored them in every different way as far as fuel goes and never had a prob. I once pulled a 66 Mercury out of a junkyard that had sit for 15 years. Stuck a new battery in it and it fired up with the gas that it had in it (took a little cranking). Now granted, that gas was def pre-ethanol, but you get the idea...

In all seriousness what I am questioning is whether it is worth the difference to use the marina (non ethanol) based fuel rather than the land fuel which has ethanol in it. Ironically enough I store the boat in the shadow of what is probably the largest ethanol production facility in the world.

I know on aircraft we always store with full tanks. I think I will do the same with the boat.

If your quandry is the marina (non-ethanol) vs the local gas station (ethanol), and you plan on treating it anyways, it comes down to your wallet and how much ya wanna spend. In my opinion (worth nothing) either way will work.

I try to search out the marinas (I don't care if Ontario, Canada, or Michigan US) that sell ethanol free gas. I believe I have only ethanal free gas in my tanks.

In your case, I would fill with ethanol free gas (for winter storage) if possible. The difference in fuel cost would mean dick to me. What would be the difference in cost between the two anyways with respect to your overall costs for a boatings season?

Niagra...I knew the ethanol debate would create the controversy but it was a question I had been pondering so I thought I would throw it out there. I think I'll play it on the side of caution and spend the extra bucks, fill up at the marina and forget about it by Monday. I'll be happy I did when I fire it up in the spring. I'm not all that concerned about running the blended fuel over the summer but the long term storage properties of the blended fuel are my concern. That being said I've never had a problem with this boat.

I was going to suggest that if you want to save money and buy Ethanol, wait until spring and buy it then. If you are going to fill up now, then use marina gas. I have been through the expense of having a tank pumped out...both labor and wasted gas.

I hear ya brother, one thing I forgot to take into consideration is fuel injection vs carb. The majority of my experience has been with carbs, and I understand ethanol DOES cause probs with the FI. I don't blame ya for going the safe route...

I would not switch back n forth between straight gas and e10. Use one or the other, switching is what can cause problems.

How does switching cause problems? As for the initial question...I agree with your decision to go with marina fuel that's ethanol free. I would treat it too with stabil pink if me.

The totally full or completely empty tank prevents moisture from forming due to condensation......the stabil prevents fuel from being affected by moisture...the ethanol makes the fuel more prone to being affected by moisture.

The manual calls for full or empty tank for storage.
