Never had this happen before. New impeller but this would happen randomly before. Engine temps normally at 175, but randomly they'll dip to 160 at idle 175 cruise but then it will suddenly climb to whatever on cruise but if I slow to idle it will goto back 170 then if I take off again it stays 175. Temp is everywhere. From too cold to too hot. I verified no inlet obstruction. New tstat time?

Temp sending unit? I'd check that first, then if it pans out, go with the T-Stat.

Maybe. Once I wasn't paying attention it hit 240 but I checked the manifolds and you could hold emwith your hands. Not hot at all

The manifolds and risers get cold water regardless of what the thermostat is doing, so them being cool to touch isn't any indication that the thermostat is OK.

Yep that sucks. Sounds like a cracked block. In order to relieve you of your pain in owning a Stingray, I will over pay you for it at 10% of nada book.

Seriously though, check or replace the sensor as I do not know if you can get a stat to jump around that much that quick. They will usually just stick open. I guess a quick check also would be to open up the stat and see if it's closed or not. You could also test it in boiling pan of water the old fashioned way.

Go to autozone and buy an Infared Thermometer...then you can check temps at various places on block ahead and behind Thermostat...

Like stated the Mani temps have nothing to do with block temps...if gauge don't match block temp fairly close then its a send or, gauge or wiring issue......if it does match then you got bigger problems....internal blockage, pump failure, impellor etc. Hopefully, that motor hasn't been cooked by you or prior owner...didn't you say you thought you sucked up sand or mud on that boat because of temp issue.

I have never had a sensor fail that resulted in varied temps...always seems to be a peg to one side or other. You better get that checked out and fast.
