While winterizing my boat today I noticed some loose rust in the starboard exhaust manifold as I was draining them. Could it be time for new manifolds and risers in the spring? It's a 5.7 GL--a Jasper reman block from '05. From 05-'08 boat was in fresh water only, then from end of '08 through the end of this season in salt......motor flushed nearly everytime after every use with the exception of this year- the first year in a slip. How long can you go before replacing man/risers? I think I will do it myself when the time comes.....any recommendations for aftermarket risers? Or should I just bite the bullet and spring for the Volvo manifolds & risers?
Thanks in advance....

Steve

I would pull them and check it out before I sprung for new one's. See if any of the walls are weak or rusting through. Or, if the money does not hurt you, put on a new pair and keep these as spares. Just make sure you keep everything squared and clean on the mating surfaces or you will break them when you torque them down.

I recently purchased HGE (Chinese) manifolds and risers from Doug Russel Marine on ebay for the 4.3 in my 1996 Horizon 190. I touched up the mating services with a file, repainted them and they installed without a hitch. The customer service at Doug Russel was great.

HGE? Never heard of them.......Have also heard bad things about Doug Russell marine too, but you never know. They must sell other after-market brands.
I'm just not a fan of buying stuff like this from China! Heck, I picked out tile for our kitchen renovation last year then I looked at where the tile was manufactured................chose another brand.

I'm with you on Chinese crap, but I've bought from Doug Russell for several years now and have never had better service.
