This boat is new to me. And I don't have a manual for the motor/drives. What oil is recommended for a 1997 volvo 5.7 GLi. ? Filter ph30?

Also what oil for sx drives.

I use a 20w60 (full zinc) performance mineral oil and the 'long' Chev' specific oil filter in my 1997 5.7GL.
I also use a 75w90 full synthetic GL-5 rated gear oil in my Volvo Penta SX leg.

Volvo used to recommend a syn straight 30, now they recommend a syn 10w/40. You could use HD straight 30 like Pennzoil Marine. Then there is the Merc/Quicksilver 25/40 that is actually blended for marine inboard use...

A 10w40 is a very low viscosity to use in a V8 Chev!
Oil shears & thins out with fuel dilution faster than a car, due to larger engine tolerances & mechanical load.
Speak to any engine builder that specialises in V8's and marine use. They will mostly always recommend a thicker viscosity index.
p.s. I do this stuff for a living.
