Considering a 288 with the 4.3's with DP's. Has anyone had any experience with this set up. I am familiar with the 288 with 5.0's and single props. Speed is not the concern as much as getting on plane and staying there. Especially with a load.

I've had that set up for the last 7 years. cruise speed is between 26 and 29 mph. never an issue getting on plane quickly even with 8 adults.

"$100/hr on plane. They all burn roughly the same!!" --- I prefer to think of fuel burn on our Vista 328 at about 23 US gallons an hour while on plane. Sounds cheaper when you look at it in GPH. :)

Mike.

I have twin 5.0's mated to DPS-A's on a 288.It's a dog with 4 or 5 people on board. Once you get on plane it's not bad. It's getting there. I can hold plane at 2800 rpm's. You will not like the 4.3's trying to get on plane if you have a few people on board. I think the 288 could have bigger engines.

You aren't kidding....please stop referring to DPH (dollars per hour)....or dpd (per day)....and the dreaded DPY...momma ever sees this and I'm screwed.

Go with the bigger twins....maintenance is same and initial expense worth added torque....I think both will do job but the little engine will huff and puff going up the hill....I think that's how the little engine that could goes.

I personally don't worry or care how much it cost to run. It's what we do as a family. Lots of people have hobbies, mine just happens to be buying gas!!!
We have twin 5.7 gxi's in ours and it has plenty of power, I've hit 47mph and you should see how fast I can help the economy out
