There have been serveral on this board that have had bad connections for the trim relays. Try removing and re-installing them or switching the up and down relays to see if the problem follows the parts.

There's no emergency release.

It's either relays or the pump

some older pumps do have a release in the form of a screw at the bottom of the pump which will allow you to move the drive up or down......

Also, you did not post your drive type... if your drive is a Penta SX/A it will have the externally mounted trim pump (lower right)... look and see if the trim fluid has leaked out... my '07 did this and they have a redesign kit for this very problem... it would go up but not down, though the pump would still *try* to go down... low fluid can cause all sorts of issues

got it fixed last night, proplem was the guy that winterized it "checked the fluid" with it down, lost some fluid (due to it having pressure in the lowered position), didn't think anything about it since it raised up afterwards. i used the manual release it went down, back up but not back down, filled it to the full level, now it works great.

thanks guys

Good deal! Yes, they have locking check valves in them. It takes pressure to move them. If you are low on fluid, they will not move at all unless you by-pass it. It takes the most fluid when all the way up. The down side has the cylinder rod to take up volume.
