Anyone know of a good replacement for the Navman Fuel 3100? My boat has one, and the display no longer works very well, and has what is apparently a very well known issue. Can't seem to find a replacement display for it very easily. It can apparently be repaired with some "MacGyver" work, but I'm just not to terribly interested in trying it at this point. Would love to be able to replace it with a direct replacement unit if at all possible, so it wouldn't be necessary to replace the fuel flow sensors on the engines too.. Anyone with any knowledge on this setup, or replacement options.. I'm coming up pretty well empty..

I've got the simpler (circular) 2100 version. The output cable broke at the sensor ( the very brittle potting compound used on the sender had ifound it's way into the cable due to capillary action).

So, I had to buy a new sender. At the same time, I bought a Navman 5600 plotter, which will accept the fuel flow data and combine it with the GPS data; mpg, range, gal per nautical mile etc. I bought them together.

So, a plotter is one option as a replacement for your display; however, the plug on the end of the cable for the "simple" version I have (2100) is not the same as that on the end of the cable for the "plotter" version ! (5 pin vs 8 pin) I don't know what the 3100 has. Both types of senders/ cables / plug have only 2 conductors. At one time, Navman used to sell an adapter like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/NAVMAN-Northsta ... 33806cec20.

Navman became "Northstar" ( in Europe at least), maybe there is a " Northstar" version of your gauge ( or adapter for a plotter)

Yes, they did have a Northstar version that was basically the same unit, just had the Northstar logo/name on it.. Still cannot find many/any of those either.. That one you found on ebay, does not look like they'd send it to the U.S., and pricing (and shipping if they did) would probably not make it worth it.. Already have a plotter, so not really liking the idea of replacing that too.. Thanks for the input, I'm still keeping my eyes out..

The drawing of the Faria fuel flow sender looks awfully like the old Navman one !

I don't know how compatible their gauge is with the Navman one though. If it is, then the Faria sender could be kept as a spare. If it's not, then the Faria kit probably comes with the sender anyhow.

Good link, and worth checking on, but two things to worry about there. Looks like it is just for one engine, where the Navman does two (I think) and I have twins, and then, cosmetically, I'd have to figure something out in regards to the big hole that will be left by removing the Navman. Ideally, I could find a unit that was the same size, or a touch larger.. Am I getting picky now?..

You could use 2 Faria displays I suppose, fitted on a panel to cover the existing hole; the kits seem to be about USD 230 each though!

The ca USD 143 for the Ebay UK 3100s includes UK sales tax of 20%, so it'd be about USD 120 for export; They may not usually export to the US due to licensing agreements, but as it's not new ( ex display) and a discontinued/ unavailable item they may export it. Shipping to the UK from the US for a light thing like that i usually quoted at around USD 40. Even if it's USD 50 going the other way around, it'd be less than USD 170 total ( plus whatever import/ purchase tax you'd have to pay) ..............and it'd be a direct replacement for what you have now. Worth asking if they'd export it, I think !

Sorry, wish I could tell you, but I've not had the boat very long, just bought it in August, and had some issues so didn't get to play around too much, and the Navman has not been functional since owning it (I knew this when purchased and used it during negotiating price), hense me wanting to replace if possible..

Thanks Jason. Was just curious if my typical cruise RPM of 3400 RPM (30 MPH) was in line with the optimum MPG on your Navman.

I just finished reading your reply to the "XDP drive" thread. Hopefully this coming spring you have your mechanical issues behind you and can enjoy an uninterrupted boating season.

If and when I get her up and running, I'll let you know what I find out.. Yes, hopefully my troubles are behind me, and it will be good from here on out! Looking forward to a great season.. Hoping to maybe get her out of storage maybe next week if the weather continues to hold, and start working on some of my updates, cleaning, and getting ready to start the season. Hope to have her back in the water by the first part of April!
