Not taking sides,
My boat came with a Sony car stereo ( I had the same one in a Bonneville)
and I put a better Sony car stereo in a couple years ago. It's not really
out in the elements and if it rains I just close the door on it. A salt water
environment might be different, but I'm in all fresh.

It's also nice that when you turn your battery switch off it retains all of the presets and settings... ALPINE is the way to go... not to mention it has a wireless RF waterproof remote, which works while your in the water and want to change the stereo...

What I find most odd regardless of the brand of radio is the fact that of all the money being spent on great speakers, subs, power amps and such.....no one is playing CD's-- all coming off an iPod or a FLASH drive holding mp3's!!!!!! Mp3 is a compressed format......not even "CD quality" which is only 44.1k/16 bit sampling!!!! Why spent all this $$ for mp3 playback???!?!?!?!?!?!?! Not worth it in my mind......'course I'm a professional recording engineer.

You're forgetting that this is not a studio listening environment!
Boat's have a terrible environment for reproducing quality sound & fiberglass generally resonates like hell...

I still have the Sony rcvr and speakers that came with the boat. The receiver is a pain in the butt whenever I turn boat off and back on. It will not hold the station and can't hear squat when underway.
So guess I need an amp and some new speakers.

I remember the good-ol-days (1980's) when lots of boats at the island or sandbar would all be on the same radio station. Now we have better (louder) radios playing 20 different things at the same time

Awwwwwwwwww Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh

My local Deka battery has rebuilt 220ah 6v batteries for $65 each. That just saved me a bunch of money. I have some things to order like 12/3 marine triplex, battery cut off switch, 5/8 marine hose, battery hold downs, high quality SS hose clamps. That should get me working AC on phase 1 of the install. Phase 2 will be contacting a former customer of mine that builds custom kitchens and having them build an enclosure with a corian top. In a few months phase 3 will be installing a gm marine 1 wire alternator to charge/run the AC system while under power. The system draws 45-50 amps so a standard 65amp will both be plenty to run/charge while engine is running.

Big project? I've done worse. Costly? Kinda, but the payoff is amazing. 4-8 hours of AC/heat on battery, unlimited AC with engine running and self charging. No shore power/genset/charger needed. Fully USCG legal. I have no idea why more people don't install this way.

Interesting thread ric. I am glad someone else went with the Infinity speakers. I just ordered two more sets to replace my 400 dollars a set JL Audio's. I will put one set in and listen to see which I like.

I see you are still taking the barbs from Capt' whom is mostly for fun, but some of the others are just rude. It's good you are giving some layout like this on ANY forum. Most don't. I will post an update on my 38 Special and other boats and truck on a thread. My intention was to give you a call when I am ready to put it back in the water instead of a non boater from work. This boat takes more than my self just to put it in. lol

We should be in Florida until around Oct 1st unless things change.

I also don't understand why Rics mods and improvements posts etc attract such flak, I find them very informative. I've avoided posting responses about my lack of understanding about the criicism/ sarcasm of Rics posts/ activities as I wasn't sure it's down to an an "American" humour that I'm ignorant of. Maybe I was wrong. There again, you guys like Cold Budweiser, I'll never understand that !

I never understood either. The stingray forums hated every single bit of it. My TV was stupid. LED lights gay. You name it.

I'll make sure to get good pictures of the AC install, and everything I used.

Looking good Ric.

Is there any room to sit at the stern? Looks like you would benefit from a larger swim platform.
