I've been meaning to ask this for a while but it slipped my mind untill I was cleaning out the boat for the season. When I brought the boat home from the dealer I found a piece of canvas in the gunnel storage locker, it looks like it's meant to extend the bimini or something? It's the same fabric as the rest of the canvas, maybe 3" or so thick and the same width as the bimini and has zippers on both sides. Is this perhaps meant to zip on the back of the bimini and extend the rear part of the camper canvas (which fits way too tight on my 248?) Any help would be great, I can post photos if you need them. I assume since all the 248's come standard with full canvas that someone has to know what this piece is for.

It sounds like the bimini cover, when you have it all closed up, for traveling. http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff56 ... C00233.jpg

Do you always have the top opened up while boating?

Sorry I should have elaborated it's not the bimini cover. I have no idea what it is but here is a run down of the pieces I have and know what they are.

Bimini
Bimini Cover
Isenglass front filler pannel
Port Front isenglass filler
Starboard Front isenglass filler
Port Canvas Rear Filler
Starboard Canvas Rear Filler
Stern canvas filler

and then there is this "unknown" piece...

Brett, I can't say for sure but here is what I remember; The cover is used if you don't want the bimimi top fully open. When the top is only half open this piece zips it together to keep the back part closed. I think the idea is allow someone sitting on the stern seat to get sun and keep the helm covered at the same time. Hope this helps. :?:

Fred,

Well, Now that is interesting!!! That is fantastic info! now all I have to do is figure out how that works (curiosity always gets the better of me).

While we are on the subject of the canvas, how does you other 248 owners canvas fit? I seem to have a slight gap between the isenglass side pannels and the top of the canvas and my rear piece is also very tight, so tight that it made the bug screen split in a couple areas. It's like the canvas shrunk some. I don't honestly see any way to "adjust" for more slack or to make this fit better. Has your canvas shrunk at all?

The stern piece fits fine, not too tight or loose. However I wish the isenglass over the windshield was a tad tighter. Other than that I have no complaints. We so seldom use our camper top but it's oh so great for overnighters! And of course if we run into rain. :P

Ditto with Fred. mine fits great, but the front glass just sucks. I do need to have my screens replaced this winter though.

Well, then I am missing this piece of canvas!! On our sundowner we used the front half of the bimini alot, and only put up the back half rarely or when using the entire camper canvas.

I would like to only have half of the bimini top opened up, I need this option!! 8) I will have to look into getting my dealer to price it for me.

Ha! I was also wondering wth that was until about partway through the summer when I saw another 248 that had the back of the top wrapped then I was like, "well that answers that!"

I had my canvas isenglass and screens all redone and they look brand new but I never even got around to trying them out. My oem screens were beat and ripped. They replaced them with a much nicer, thicker mesh screen that looks 1000x more durable then oem. Brett I wouldn't hesitate to take it to a canvas shop and get the screen upgraded, it would be pretty inexpensive. I paid 400 for 2 sides front and the rear for the isenglass and screen.

Brenden,

That's a next year project, the few tiny little tears in the back part of the enclosure don't bug me for now. Update on the plasdeck (flexiteak) I spoke with Travis again and mentioned I "might" just want to do my entire cockpit and esp in teak.. He got back to me with $1834.00 for the entire cockpit and esp! (FW wants $1400.00 just for the fricken platform!) needless to say, I'm thinkin my whole boat will be teak! :)
