Just for grins, and if you're willing to share - about how much per year do you pay for state/county/city property taxes on your boat(s)? I know Kansas is out-f'n-rageous, I'm just trying to get a quick idea of how out-of-line they are.

That includes property taxes, or is that just basic registration?

The only Property Taxes we pay are on real estate in Florida. Are you talking an Excise tax that is based on the value of the asset? If that is what you are referring to, we do not have those personal property taxes in Florida (there is a tangible tax on business assets like furniture, equipment, etc).

Our tag fees are set rates and not based on value. Thus, our car, truck, boat, etc tags are not deductible on our tax returns.

Massachusetts and Arizona, for example, calculates the annual tag based on the "Value" of the car and that makes that fee deductible on your Schedule A.

My username might make sense to some now

Registration for the boat is about $50 for 3 years.
Trailer is prorated and cost me $41 good till Dec. 31st.
All things considered, not a bad deal for being in N.Y.

Mike,

As you know I'm on the Missouri side in KC and it's not any better. I haven't received my property tax bill yet, but last year it was around $2,000 with just two newer vehicles. I've added a third vehicle for the business, a wave runner, and my new H260 since then. We are estimating around $5K, but like I said, we haven't received the bill yet. I should also mention I'm in Clay county, they are very proud of Smithville lake around here. The park is nice, but the lake is nothing to write home about.

No sales tax on used boats in RI, no property tax, only $60 every 2 years for registration.
Just ask John Kerry, he bought a boat, and because he keeps it in RI he doesnt have to pay taxes.
We got rid of the taxes to stimulate boating here years ago

Now the trailer, 2001 Aluminum Bear Trailer has an excise tax about 75 bucks a year
Now cars are ski high..2009 tacoma 4x4 almost 2000 a year, 2011 Rav4 4x4 close to 2 grand also, 2002 Corolla 200 a year., 2009 Yamaha Fz1 300 a year

So we boat for free, but get screwed to drive

Georgia has an ad valorem tax for boats and then we have to pay registration every three years. I pay around $380 per year for the ad valorem tax and then $90 every three years for registration. I sure wish this country would go to the Fair Tax (sales tax) and eliminate all of this nonsense.

I love Michigan.

We have a 6% sales tax at time of purchase and then very resonable 3 year registrations on boats. My 18 footer is $42 for 3 years. Our trailer plates are a one time fee at time of initial registration. If the trailer is less than 2500 lbs it is only $75. Thats it.

My 28 footer has a 3 year registration of $115.

They do talk about changing things from time to time and my guess is things will be changing soon, but for now it is very nice.
