I was lucky when we purchased our 328 Vista in Ontario, Canada about 4 years ago.

At the time I only had to pay the one tax (this was when we had the PST, GST taxes). We purchased our boat in April and the "new" HST (combined tax) now called HST came out a couple months later (I believe July).

When the HST came out now boats sold privately where subject to the HST tax at 13%. Prior to the HST private boat sales were in the 7 - 8% range for tax owing.

I would have had to pay thousands more if I purchased our boat just a couple months later.

$00.00 in CT.....as the state does not "recognize" boats...trailer? about 10, 11.00/year. Cars have property tax--ours are cheap-- under 100.00/year each for an '01 & '03..

No property tax on boats in RI. They tax everything else though.

Wait until you move it or sell it. We fought the county two years in a row to get it off of our bill. We went through this with Kansas on my income tax as well. I moved my residency back to South Dakota and never worked again in Kansas and they kept trying to get me to pay them on everything I earned.
They get their tax collecting hooks into you and don't want to let go.

It is very disappointing to find out that they have not actually fixed the boat taxes. We are looking for a place in TRL as well. An empty acreage to put up a fence and a shop for now and build a place when we sell ours in Kansas.

That's quite a statement, that the taxes on one boat that is stored in a soy bean field in the middle of flyover country and used in local mud puddles, are more than $800 higher than a comparable boat stored/used in one of the boating capitols.

Taxes are never based on anything logical I know, but still...

Still looking for a new place for storage.
