This actually occurred a couple weeks ago but I just heard about it. I was wondering why I recently saw a couple local gas stations with big signs out front stating "We sell ethanol free fuel".

It is only a matter of time before this happens throughout the nation. Here we are sitting on one of the world's greatest oil reserves and our brilliant government mandates the use of corn for a fuel alternative which in turn increases our food prices though the roof.

Ethynol is not driving up your food prices. The uptick in corn price because of its consumption that way will not show up at food stores. For example if you triple the price of wheat you would see a cents increase in a loaf of bread.

That is what the government and the ethanol lobby want you to think but facts are facts and cannot be denied. The government and the ethanol lobby blame the increase of food prices on rising fuel costs and they are exactly right but it is the high cost of producing ethanol that is what is increasing the cost of fuel:

Image

Any defense of the ethanol policy rests on fallacies, primarily these: that ethanol produced from corn makes the United States less dependent on fossil fuels; that ethanol lowers the price of gasoline; that an increase in the percentage of ethanol blended into gasoline increases the overall supply of gasoline; and that ethanol is environmentally friendly and lowers global carbon dioxide emissions.

Granted, corn is indeed a renewable resource, but it has a far lower yield relative to the energy used to produce it. Ethanol yields about 30 percent less energy per gallon than gasoline, so mileage drops off significantly. Finally, adding ethanol actually raises the price of blended fuel because it is more expensive to transport and handle than gasoline.

This government needs to waive the Renewable Fuel Standard mandate, embrace free market principles and let the market work which in turn will result in lower fuel and food prices.

I am currently in the Pocono Mountains and today I passed a gas station with a big sign out front. It said "All Of Our Gas Is 90% Ethanol Free" LMFAO.

Your graph is missing a few axises. Are you saying the only reason for the increase in the use in fuel?

Don't believe every graph you get in your inbox....

Nice! I have one about a ten minute drive from home, only downside is I have to drive the opposite direction from the marina.

What is the price difference compared to E10? I would imagine non-ethanol is higher but given you get better mileage, not to mention better for your engine, it is probably worth it.

Last weekend I rebuilt a carb with damage from using Ethanol blended fuel...... Corrosion and damage are real, blended fuel are a real bummer and around here getting real gas is getting difficult.....

Ironically ethanol doesn't damage carbs one bit. Its the real gas that damages them. If we had boats running 100% ethanol you'd never rebuild a carb or worry about storage

Ric, your absolutely correct. Ethanol by itself does not do the damage. Ethanol absorbs moisture in greater quantities vs real gas. while in storage, ethanol evaporates leaving the Water, which corrodes. If the carb or fuel system was designed for use with blended fuels, could be much less of a problem, but if not, you could have issues.

I do know since I have little choice but to use these blended fuels, my problems have increased...... This is just my personal experience. Ric, you live in a different local and use fuels and additives from a different refinery, transport, service stations, ect., I can see that you could have different results.....
