Ric you just need to bite the bullet and step over from the dark side. Prices are awfully good for vistas right now....lol

Jim,

Just found this boat listed in Neptune, NJ. I think it fits just what you are looking for.
It is a craigslist ad, but the number comes back to a dealer.

The 248's were often referred to as "baby vista" and have the advantage of being trailer-able (both by weight, and by being only 8'6" wide. Since you do not plan on trailering, I would try to jump up to the 26-28 foot range for what you are looking to do. 4 ft longer and 1 foot wider would make a huge difference in the amount of room you have.

So true!! I went from a 26' 8.5 beam to a 29' 9.5 beam. What a smoother ride!!!!!!!!!! And yes, 6 people is not a problem, but my wife & I are small and most of are friends are too.

BUT there's a give & take with everything! Bigger boat = more$$$

for the space he is looking for, a 268 would suit nicely but if he has no experence it could be a problem.

If I was starting out and could afford it I would start with a low to mid 2000s 248 and use it for a few years then jump to something bigger like a 298 after I was very comfortable.

I am too much of a clean freak to leave my boat in a slip yet so I prefer something that fits in my driveway till we move to NC, then we will jump up to a much bigger Vista

I have a 2000 248 where do I get a radar arch like that?

Do they offer a 3rd party arch?

Thanks!

Henry

In doing our research we wanted an arch. We found a Vista 248 but in talking to a dealer found out that the Vista 248 didn't come with an arch, so that took this size out of the search. We are very happy with the 268 we found.

Speaking of arches... I just realized the bridge clearance on a 248 vista. My 215 is 5'8 and the vista is 6'9. That counts me out of a canal that connects two lakes that I like to boat on. Standing in my boat I have to duck.
