I have a tin can with a 6 HP Suzuki for fishing here at the house. The water lilies and weeds are exceptionally bad this year. I'm thinking, if I get out my grinder and sharped the leading edge of the blades, this may help chop up all the weeds with less foulings.

Your thoughts guys?

I would not try that on a larger, higher horsepower prop because your grinding could cause a stress concentration that could start a crack formation.

However, on a 6 HP? Maybe it's worth a try. I think that weeds get caught near the root of the blade, so you probably would not need to sharpen all the way to the tip. Maybe from the root to a point half-way up to the tip? If the prop is aluminum, I wouldn't expect it to hold a sharp edge for long.

Might be worth considering buying a rope/weed cutter? It would be better to sharpen (take metal) off an attachment than a prop. Not sure if you can get them for small outboard applications.
