With all the emphasis on low hour...

I was wondering who has the most hours on their engine / drive. Please state your engine hours, engine/drive type, and if it has ever been rebuilt, when was the rebuild.

I estimate mine ancient power package to have approximately 800 hrs, original engine never had the heads off (yet knock on wood) the drive had a few bearings and seals replaced over the years but it too is original.
When it needs a new engine I will of course add closed cooling and I want to see if there is a way to adapt Merc's dry joint exhaust which is one of their better ideas.
Going to keep the Cobra drive system as long as I can because I actually prefer it to either Merc or Volvo. I find it easier to work on than the Merc Alpha and the parts are cheaper than for similar Volvos.

I have 496 hours on mine, No rebuild on either. I do know the boat was serviced from head to tow each year after the season. Kept inside when stored. Knock On Wood.. no issues. I just baby her.

Now were getting there, but still not 4 digits...

I think these engines should be capable of 2000-3000 hours under the right circumstances.

In fear of turning this in to another oil thread, you're spot on!
Engine oils with high zinc additives in them offer outstanding anti-wear properties, especially on flat tappet cam engines.

OK. My '95 190 Horizon had between 2100 and 2200 hours when I sold it last year. The boat had a 5.0 EFI Ford engine with the OMC/Volvo SX out drive with 1.6 to 1 gear ratio. The engine and out drive were never disassembled and ran great. In '96 and '97 I had an issue with an exhaust flapper valve, and in 2010 I had a bad fuse in the engine computer power wire. The only issue I had with the out drive was a leaking bellows around the drive shaft where the bellows contacted the hose clamp screw. I was lucky to catch it early and correct it before u joints went bad. The boat was always trailered and stored inside.

Here is the highest one I found online so far
From Capt William Myers on MarineEngine.com:
Quote:
Its not the hours its the maintenance. I have a Merc 454 in a 30 ft work boat with 5100hrs. In my experiance it still sounds as strong as the day it was born. Oil changes, tuneups, all money really well spent."

That and actually using the boat. Nothing is worse for a boat than sitting unused.

Ya cant put a price tag On Pleasure. Especially when boating. :D I don't mind running up the hours on the boat. Thats just that many hours of relaxation I had that summer. Nothing better then heading to the boat ramp. Vacation starts as soon as it hits the water and were off to the islands. Beer cracks open and we just cruise at a nice pace with the wind in our face , Tunes playing in the back ground. God you gotta love it . Come on Thursday, Heading up up to Middle bass island..
