I have a 1990 190 freedom with a 4.3 OMC Cobra. Just took it out on the water today after rebuilding carb. had to make adjustment to the choke . Boat was running good Except for overheating problem. temp stayed at 150 for about 5 minutes then jump to 190. hit a rock on my way out of the dock. damage To all 3 prop blades. Could that cause the overheating problem?

Is it possible that you damaged the impeller/raw water pump when you hit the rock?

You probably sucked up stuff and damaged the impeller. Change it.

?Okay I pulled off the water pump The impeller is fine But when I opened up the cage for water pump there's a 3/8 line that was disconnected from pump. Would that stop the pump from working?

that little rubber hose that connects to the nipple on the impeller housing allows air to get out of the housing so water can go in, if the nipple was clogged that might have made it harder for the pump to prime. Before you re-install the housing, blow compressed air through the nipple to make sure its clear. After you put it back together, run the boat on land on the water hose. Leave the cover of the impeller housing area off and check that there are not water leaks around the impeller housing and that water shoots out of that nipple. Any water leaks that o-ring seal is not sealing. If all is OK hook up the little hose and put the boat in the water to try it again.

Thanks and I have to say your thread where you pulled the motor to fix the transom leak was great.
Eventually I will re power this boat and will be doing the same.
I always try to help out with Cobra stuff because many shops don't work on them or don't have the knowledge.

Tried the lowwer unit stuff and there was no change. Nothing plugged. So i went to the engine and pulled off the thermostat. She was as rusted as they get. Ran the motor with it out and it stayed nice and cool. So anyone with thos engine make sure to change your thermostat every couple years. Thanks for everyones help!!!
