Did not open the engine cover yesterday. Yes, I know I'm supposed to check the oil, sniff for fuel, check other fluid levels, check belt tension, etc etc etc.

But yesterday I just started the engine, went boating all day, then went home. Ran great, and the closest thing to maintenance I did yesterday was flip the battery switch from 1 to 2.

I/O boaters equivalent to a hole-in-one! :D :D :D

I the bigger question that no one has asked! When was the last time the fluids were checked? And how many hours was that in between?

I do that all the time, but only put 3 or 4 hours between checking.

Merc has the drive lube monitor system, freaking cool feature. I wish Volvo did that. Other than that just check the engine oil every week manually.

I check my oil once a year whether it needs it or not.

Think about adding a fume detector if you don't have one.

Maintenance on those are pretty freaking heavy.

I lift the lid and check fluids every time before she leaves the slip.

No need, the fumes from our Cocker Spaniel need no fancy detectors; I've never known a dog with such "delicate" bowels The only solution is to drive faster ( leaving the fumes behind)

Like what? None of my clients have ever asked me to look into their vapor detectors.

One drop of water on the detector part and it doesn't work anymore. As in, if there's fumes it won't read fumes.

Every detector I've seen is of the waterproof variety.
