Call me a ricer or a n00b, but every watercraft I've owned has had a p1sser, but this.
Where would be an ideal location to tee off a small 1/4" telltale to my VP 5.7GL (572BPLKR)?
The port side exhaust manifold water feed? :?

Will re-routing 1/4" worth of water effect any engine cooling function?
Cheers. 8)

I believe he is referring to something similar to what a lot of outboards have, the water stream coming from the motor, above the water line..

^^^ Correct.
A prime example is Yamaha's Waverunner & that jet of water that shoots out the back.
This obviously wouldn't be mounted to shoot up out the back, but it's an easy indicator to confirm water circulation (additional to a temp' gauge).

Haaa, glad someone else asked first. Pisser to me means a urinal. I was imagining deafwish hooking up a hose to his riser so he could pizz and have it washed away with his exhaust....

lol. I had always called it a "pisser" on my outboard. Check the pisser right after you start the engine.

To answer your original question, I would think the best place to Tee into would be the hose from the raw water pump going to the thermostat housing (the smaller of the two black hoses that are on your thermostat housing). I don't think a 1/4" hose with a 1/8" or 5/32" nozzle at the end would loose a significant amount of water.

Add yellow LED lighting to add to the "pisser" effect.

Does your boat not have a temperature gauge?

A temperature gauge really only shows you when things are gradually starting to change from normal.

Blown out core (freeze ) plug at a very illegal speed/ 5500+ rpm ; rapid complete loss of coolant, your engine is seized before the gauge responds ( that was a very, very expensive learning experience for me some 30 years ago !).

Blocked manifold and riser on one side on a V engine; the rubber exhaust overheats, melts and maybe even catches fire before, if ever in fact, the engine starts to overheat as the engine still has water flow through the other exhaust so it doesn't overheat.

Rather than a tell tale yellow output out of an imitation male appendage ( I try to be polite !), a flow sensor and associated alarm in the feed to each manifold/ riser would immediately give an indication of flow problems. I've heard of people using flow sensors from domestic heating boilers to do that. Actually, from around 2003 VP fitted temperature sensors in the risers. I am not sure whether these sound an alarm if they get too hot, I suspect they only cause the motor to run in a safe, low RPM mode. I stand to be corrected .

You can put in a water pressure gauge. And are you going to be looking back at WOT some 5500 rpm to see the stream?

Thanks for all the responses.
While I appreciate you all questioning my actions about this fitment, I'm actually just chasing an ideal fitment solution for this. :P

It is interesting that the thermostat housing has a cast-in boss right on that water inlet from the raw water pump... like they kept the option of putting a pressure sensor there, or a telltale hose?
