Sad to say that this past Sunday morning at 10:30 am we lost a fellow Potter's Cove boater.

Richard "Skip" Swanson (64)suffered a major heart attack and fell off his swim platform after just taking a swim. It was dead calm with no wind and we heard his wife Paula scream for help and their friends from the boat they were tied to got him out of the water. they did chest compressions till the EMT's got ther and we even found a Doctor and nurse in the cove but nothing helped...he was gone. It was gut wrenching to hear her scream for him not to leave her.. we were only 50 yards away, my wife crying, and everyone in shock.

We are friends with their son Andrew and have been since we started boating, and his family is very close to my next door neighbors.

My condolences to their family......

I know that if Skip could have chosen where he wanted to go, He did in his favorite place in the world on his prized possesion. his beautifull Wellcraft cruiser,,with his wife of 41 years by his side.

Skip you will always be remebered in the Cove by many!

Wow! 64 is way too young to go--but like you said--if you have to go, having it happen doing something you love with the ones you love is a pretty good script. Sure beats dying chained to a desk at work or in a hospital sick. Sounds like a good guy and a good family. My thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends.

Serene waters to you Skip.

I also paid my final respects to a buddy of mine today. Sorry to say cancer took him from us quite slowly. RIP Captain Larry.

Although his wife, who witnessed his passing first hand, may not look at it the same way...you never know when time is up.

Sorry to hear you lost a friend. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Last summer I lost a friend to cancer way too early, age 39. It was that event that got me boating again. My wife and I watched him battle and eventually lose to cancer and we both decided, f-it. What are we waiting for? Let's get busy living while we can. Hence the name "Don't Think Twice" (plus the fact that I'm a huge Bob Dylan fan). Every day we get to spend with our family and friends is a gift.
