There is a 2000 SeaRay Amberjack 290 with twin 5.7 EFI Bravo 3's and genset, a/c & reverse heat, and windlass for sale locally for $45k. I went and looked at it yesterday - its in nice shape, needs a little spit n' shine but overall a very nice boat. The seller is very motivated as they just bought a Cruisers, Inc 40'. They dont want to winterize/store two boats, the broker hinted that they might consider a lowball offer 8)

See it here: http://bit.ly/1as6gsk

The thought of getting out of my Vista 278 is painful because I like her, but the fantasy of having more BEAM is whats sucking me in. Why does Four Winns hate beam so much?? lol.

Can somebody talk me out of this.... Have a viewing with the broker Monday. :?

That has to be the worst layout in a boat I've ever seen with the styling from the 1970's.

I'll agree the cabin looks a bit dated, but the boat looks pretty well taken care of from what I see.

Big boat looks pretty good. I would not buy it because of poor engine access. Anything on the outboard side of the engines will be tough to get to. Plugs on both outboard sides, starter on stbd engine, exhaust on both outboard sides. There is no reason why the engine hatch could not be wider.

It's a nice fishing boat with some creature comforts. Against the grain, I'd consider it, but then agin, I pull the rear seat and table out of my 248 when I run off shore to fish!

In today's market 40 grand gets you a lot. A lot more than a 18 year old boat that was out of style the day it came out. If the price was around 25 I'd say maybe.

Thanks for the feedback and trying to talk me out of it...lol.

Im going to view it Monday with a broker and get an up close and personal look at everything.

Lou - I need to take a picture of my 278 Vista engine room for you for comparison. With two v6's and a generator crammed in there, most of the things I do are done by feel! When I see those pictures of the Amberjacks engine area, I was impressed by all of the space and access, comparatively speaking. (scary huh?) lol

It might just be me kicking tires, who knows. Im not really in the market for a new boat but I have always secretly had a crush on the 2000+ Amberjack & Sundancers  Only 1 will fit under the bridge to get into the canal that gets to my house and seawall though, and thats the AJ.

I could see doing that if you were into fishing. Great concept and surprised Sea Ray quit making them.

Looks nice to me; there's tons of engine compartment access... the cover that is open in those pictures is merely the center cover. There's another 10" or so on either side when one removes the other two panels.
The styling is not dated in my opinion; rounded corners, more modern cabinetry, and white cockpit styling look great. There's tons of room on deck too. I'd be happy in something like that.

The boat is a little dated. But it does not look that bad! Make an offer and you can alway fix things up. The market is SOFT right now. I would offer 30 and see what happens. Have the boat checked out FIRST.
