How can i verify, # of owners on a boat?

You mean the number of previous owners of a boat? Or if more than one person currently owns a boat (co-signer)? Owners name(s) should be on the title and/or registration, depending on State or Country.

Would maintenance records of what was done to the boat your interested in be available to view?

Otherwise maybe contacting previous owner and going from there. I understand the older the boat the less likelyhood maintenance records are kept intact and previous owners are harder to contact.

There's no central database for boat HINs like car VINs at least that I'm aware of. Does it matter? Just because someone claims it's a "One Owner Boat" what is that supposed to mean? Means nothing.

Ric, who said anything about a one owner boat? Does it matter to Pastime? Obviously yes, that's why the question was asked.

Pastime, here in Ontario there isn't anything like the used car sellers package (for boats) that will give you the entire list of previous owners. It's really too bad we don't have it since the car package also lists any liens, debts or incumbrances.

...... Winter Sux, tks. to cleare this issue up for Ont. used boat buyers.

I was inquiring about 2002/2005 cruisers.
One owner believes, he is the 4th owner of the boat.
A other boat owner believes, he is the 3th owner.

Both where private sales:Well, after asking, where the bought the boat from? (silence)
After asking a retailer the same question, the reply was later, boat was sold yesterday.

As pointed out by other replies, this can be a time consuming task?
(Down the road, I am facing the same questions, when I sell the boat again)

May not be a perfect source but I have run the boat registration through a database now called Accurint....it showed registration records by state boat number. Of course that's a Texas parks and Wildlife assigned number so out of state ownership wouldn't be reported.

It MAY have a search option by HIN but not sure
