First, I'm new to this site. Just upgrading my 280 Sundancer to a 2010 V338. But during the sea trail, I noticed that switching to reverse produces a pretty noticeable thud sound. I just don't know if this is normal or not. The boat only has 100 hours so I wouldn't think there should be an issue. I'll have many more questions as I get used to the boat - I sure enjoyed my buddies over on clubsearay - but time to move on. Thanks for your help

Welcome and the V338 is a beautiful boat. I have twin DPs in my 2000 Vista 298 and one engine does make a loud "thump" sound when I put it in reverse. The other is smooth as silk but I am the type to not mess with anything as long as it works (it can be annoying though). Don't worry, there are some experts on here that will chime in.

Welcome to the forum. Looking forward to pictures of your V338.

Too high of an idle RPM?
Outdrive oil level correct?
Worn bushings at tilt/trim cylinder attachment points? (can the outdrive be pulled back by hand and cause a clunk?)
Propellers tight?

I would look into the shift cable. They are notoriously bad on the Volvo's. Our boat did the same thing the first year we owned it (big thump and often was very difficult to move into reverse). A new cable solved it. Many others on this board have experienced the same thing.

Electronic controls - so I assume so shift cables. Having them take a look before delivery. I'll get pics on here as soon as I get her in the Slip . . ohhh and pay for it. Thanks for all – I look forward to being a major contributor.

It will have shift cables and an actuator...sounds like it may need an adjustment.

Congrats on the new boat...can't wait to see pics!
