Shower sump float is stuck. A common issue. Don't know the year or size of boat so I can't offer much more than this

It would be helpful if you posted the model and year of your boat.
Oh and welcome to the board

On my 328, the shower sump is below the bottom step going into the cabin. You should be able to find a knob under the step to unscrew, and remove that bottom step, at which point, you should be able to access the shower sump. Open it up, and check the float, and see if you can free it, and get it working properly, or determine then if something needs replaced..

You say it only makes the sound when you switch it to battery power? If it was the sump it should be doing it all the time. Maybe its your vacuflush? If your house batteries are low the vacuum will "work" a lot longer to charge. Good luck.

And if you follow TFD2001's post above and find that the shower sump is the issue, you could also simply disconnect the power going to the shower sump pump (if you don't have time or want to play with it) via the plastic connection cable that pulls apart right at the shower sump pump.

I woke up during the night on our 328 about 1 1/2 years ago by hearing this humming noise and after a little investigation determined it was the shower sump pump running and wouldn't shut off. I pulled the plastic cable connection apart and had a new shower sump box installed that contained a new pump.

Mike.
