I just got a battery switch and I am not too sure on where I should install it. It is a dual switch so somewhere near the stern but where. I know that LouC has almost the same boat as I do just a year older, and was wondering where he mounted his(assuming he has one). Please feel free to chime in and let me know.

I am no Lou C., but mine is under the starboard side U-Seat. I'd put it somewhere out of the way where it is not going to get accidentally switched by someone moving throughout the boat, but not somewhere that is difficult to access easily. I would not like to have mine in the engine compartment if I ever had to relocate it.

You want the cables short and sized right.

Captn Hoss do you have the sunsport seating (big sun pad with bench seat in front) or standard seating (engine dog house with jump seats on the sides)?
I have the sunsport seating so I put the switch on the little shelf that goes the length of the boat on the side where the starter is, right behind the bulkhead for the rear bench seat. This kept the cable to the starter and to the battery on that side short. I put #1 batt in the original location (starboard side of boat near starter) and battery #2 on the port side. I used 2 gauge marine battery cable for the short runs. The long run (from battery #2 on the port side) of 9' I used 1/0 gauge (much thicker) cable. Each battery has its own ground to the studs on the engine bellhousing.

I have the standard seating. I was going to do the same with my batteries that you did Lou. Same cable and everything I just need to figure out where to put the switch and cut the cables to lenth. Shorter the better.

If you have the jump seat, why not install it on the base of the seat the covers the battery so that you can switch it from the outside?

The jump seats are removeable, and are used to make a "sunpad" with the motor cover. I want to mount it perminatly and not to have to disconnect the switch everytime I need to move the seat or motor cover. I dont want to mount in the bilge or the engine room due to having a spark and going boom, but as I looked last night there isnt really any other place to put it that would be hidden and easy to get to at the same time. The helm would be a good spot BUT it does make for a longer run of cable and want to keep it short as possible.

I'm am having the same issue as you with mine. The standard seating makes it a little tougher to find a good place to mount the switch. I'll be watching to see what you come up with, unless I find I good spot and I'll let you know.

As long as the switch is ignition protected as most of these battery switches are, you can use it in the engine compartment. This is the one I put in about 8 years ago....

I was looking through my West Marine catalog and I saw that the Blue Seas switches are ignition protected as well.
In your boat you could mount it inside the engine compartment, but why not post a pic of what it looks like with the seats out and the dog house open so we can see?

Well I would post some pictures if I took any. I am not to handy with the camera. I rarely take any pictures, the admiral takes them ALL the time. I did mount the switch on the side of the motor cover under the jump seat. If I have to remove the cover it is just 4 screws to take it off. It is still kind of hidden and out of the way. Just doesn't have the factory look to it. I will see if we can get some pics of it. I would like to have some to put up here to show off my baby!

Well I mounted my switch last night, FINALY! I put it under the compartment where the convertable top would go. I never use that space for anything, except my ancor light when not it use. I had to snake the wires behind the dog house, removed 4 screws that hold it down to the deck, and one to the pad. It fits perfectly there and it out of the way. Now all I need to do is tuck a few wires and give it a shot to make sure I dont have any clearence issues. Once again, thanks guys for all of you help!
