Corsa Exhaust - HELP!!

Hey guys, first post here! Despite the advice of everyone that offered their opinion I decided to buy a boat. I found a 2008 Four Winns H210SS with only 37 or so hours and was able to snag it for about $2000 under NADA book.

Anyway, encountered my first problem. As I was cruising around the lake (Brookville, IN) last Sunday I had my exhaust open so she could sing to me. All the sudden the flaps start spazzing out and the boat changes from loud to quiet and back again sporadically, I look down at the gauge cluster to see the light on the ACC button flicker. After flickering a few times and sputtering the light eventually goes out and the exhaust is stuck in quiet mode. I somehoe also blew the 5A fuse for the blower motor, but I was able to track that down quickly. Back to the exhaust, I got down and looked under the dash at the wiring and found a wire (purple I think?) hanging off of the back side of the switch. I reached up, plugged it back onto the little metal clip, hit the button and bang, the light comes back on! Start the boat, no open exhaust note, toggle it a few times and still got nothin. As you may imagine this is pretty frustrating for me as I spent nearly $30k on my first boat and it's already giving me fits with only 45hrs on the clock. Someone please help me! Is there a fuse for this system I don't know about? Could I have burnt up the motors? Anyone with a similar issue?

BTW - My boat is the black/grey color scheme and has Texas registration TX 5401 AN on it.. Anyone think I may have their old boat?

I do know the book says to not change from closed to open or vice versa over 3k rpms....I will check to book and see if there may be an inline fuse or reset somewhere.

Better its stuck in quiet than open mode....I prefer to let the radio do the singing.

OK..there is a 20amp breaker with reset. This is mounted to the engine. Just follow wiring harness from corsa exhaust and it will lead you to it if not readily visible.

Once located use the index finger and push the button....that should fix it. Manual says this will trip in event of short circuit as you described.

Thanks for the help! Any way you could post a pic of the diagram for me? I'm not the most mechanically inclined..especially when it comes to electronics and wiring.

Corsa book didn't have diagram of breaker positioning...this exhaust system is used on many model boats and the mount location may vary.....I would get cover off boat and look but my kids water pump just went out on his truck so I will be busy turning wrenches tomorrow.

Congrats on the new to you boat!!

37 hours on a 6 year old boat? It's going to have a ton of issues. Get ready for basically everything breaking in the next few hours of use. Letting a boat sit unused for 6 years will have more damage/issues that a 6 year old boat with 500 hours.

Oh wow, thanks for the inspiring words ric! Well I found the circuit breaker. Opened up the engine hatch and on the front left of the engine plain as day was a small black box with a red button that said "Corsa" on it. The button clicked and the flaps opened right up!

Good deal....don't pay any attention to Ric...he's a self taught social retard that knows everything about stuff he doesn't know anything about. Welcome to the four winns forum....and take note ric don't be owning a four winns.

He's what we call a topper....no matter what you do, buy or think.....he's done it better. He got dogged on the chapparal forum so came here to spread the ignorance and its about time for him to hit the bricks.

Glad the Corsa was a simple correction.....I got the same model boat and love it.....and the wire coming off has nothing to do with hours on the boat by the way.

Glad to hear the solution was a simple one.
Over time you will figure out whatever issues pop up. It's like having a collectible car you don't drive all that much. Things happen but they don't just self destruct either.
Main things: clean fuel filters fresh gas, keep it dry out of the weather. It also helps to actuate the surge brake coupler to help keep the brakes from seizing up. Flush fluid every 3 years.

Let me elaborate on what I said earlier. All these need to be addressed right away to have an enjoyable boating experience!!

Fuel system:
-Gas tank will have many deposits, varnish, and jellies from old gasoline left in there. It will have to be cleaned out otherwise you'll be buying a new fuel pump really soon. Call your local marina there's companies that can do it without taking your boat apart.
-Anti-siphon valve will have deposits in it restricting flow
-All rubber fuel lines will need to be replaced for your safety, this is not an option. This is how boat fires occur.
-Fuel pump may or may not survive sitting that long, if it's a volvo go ahead and set aside $800 for a new pump. Don't be shocked if it fails.
-Injectors or carb: If the boat is carbureted have it rebuilt. Fuel injectors? Eh hit or miss.
-Replace fuel filter obviously

Ignition system:
-Replace cap/rotor they will have corrosion on them causing issues running and or effecting fuel economy.

Cooling system:
-Water pump impeller is toast, replace it
-Thermostat is toast, replace it
-Inspect (squeeze with your hands) all rubber water lines. If you see any cracks when it's squeezed, replace.
-Tighten all hose clamps, replace any that look bad

General Engine:
-Give everything a good look over. Motor mounts, etc. Check all bolts. Clean flame arrestor. Manifolds for rust, etc.
-37 hours is not enough time for major engine or drive defects to show their ugly face (bearings, rings, etc). This is normally not a big deal because new boats have warranties to fix these problems that arise (and they do). You don't have that luxury. Keep that in mind.

Electrical system:
Here's the big one. Four Winns does not use tinned electrical wire. They also do not use sealed crimp connectors on any wiring. You'll have to go under the dash, around the boat, the fuse block, everywhere and inspect every single wire terminal on every thing. You'll find some to be corroded and need replacing with proper connectors. Failure to do this will result in more electrical issues.

Trailer:
-Surge brake actuator is probably toast and needs replacing.
-Replace bearings

Buying a used boat with low hours doesn't mean it's better than a boat with more hours. It just means you own a boat that hasn't had any maintenance in almost a decade compared to one that's used often and taken care of properly (hopefully). As it's new owner you'll need to "catch up" and do everything that should have been done in it's 6 years of running, regardless of indicated hours.

A boat having low hours doesn't mean it hasn't been maintained...it means it has low hours. If you buy a new two year or three year old boat it will have no hours.

New impellor and fluids in motor and drive along with filter swaps (oil and fuel)...keep close eye on temp as we all do...don't overheat motor....check bilge pump and blower.

Would it be wise to suggest that 37 hrs isn't extremely low for 2008? It's definitely low but to the point of neglect? I am guessing this boat probably hasn't been sold until 2010 at earliest considering that in 2008 very few people bought new due to economy. It also didn't help that this boat probably had 10k in options (considering corsa exhaust was one of them). I remember seeing brand new 2007 boats being sold in 2010. I am guessing average hours for open bow boat in IN is probably about 20hrs/yr. That being said, I have yet to see one boat in person that has extremely low hours and has been taken care of. While I am sure there are extremely low hour boats that have been taken care of, it's statistically unlikely we will run into a lot of them. If this boat did come from TX, I'd start looking at a few things just so I can sleep easier at night.

Well said! There certainly are neglected 6 year old boats with under 50 hours on them, but that is not the case with the majority. I had a 2005 Sundowner that only had 40 or 50 hours on it when I bought in 2011 and it was a great boat with no problems at all. Its just coming from someone that is worried that someone else might have something that they dont have. It is also true that having a boat with about 30 hours a year on it, in our region, is pretty common and is good for the boat. It all depends on how you treat her in the end. Hopefully the OP is getting a boat that was taken care of and he will have few issues from this point on.
