I have been looking for awhile for a way to re-coat the dash in my Horizon. The old foam covered dash was flaking in several areas and the coating was rubbing off. I finally found a product (SEM Color Coat in Shadow Blue color) that allowed me to re-coat the dash and make it look better than new. I changed the color from the old blah tan/grey to a nice medium blue. It matches the rest of the boat color much better. I even changed the steering wheel color to match. I had previously replaced the gauges to get rid of the crappy failing VDO gauge panel and covered the trim in carbor fiber. I think it gives a more modern new look.
The only hard part was removing the dash so I could spray it and make it perfect. I had to cut part of the fiberglass out on the right side to allow the dash to be removed. That was not fun. Otherwise not a bad project.

Hi Lou,
I really liked the SEM color coat. The color matched the top of the can and it was only about $10 a can. I used 2 cans to get a good coat. I had previously tried the Duplicolor spray for car dashboards that you can buy around here in auto parts stores. The color was no where near that of the cap.

All I did was wipe the dash down good with acetone to remove any grease or residue and spray. Went on easy and seems to stick real well.
Rob

Looks great! How does it feel to touch? Is it sticky on your steering wheel?

Not sticky at all once dry. Looks and feels just like the original dash material. Dried in 1/2 hour. I will post how it holds up over the summer.

I'm curious as to what the carbon fiber material is that you used?

Ric,
Go to a local O'Reilly Auto Parts. They ordered it from their warehouse and I had it the next day.
Here is a link to the product

Good luck Rob
