I just got back from an amazing week on Smith Mountain Lake near Roanoke, VA. I will try to post some more pics later tonight but here are a couple from the cove where we stayed:

In the second image, the boat on the right is my brother's 2014 Cobalt 220. Don't get me wrong, I love my FW, but that Cobalt was amazing. It was probably not a good thing for me to spend the week with him and that boat. Serious boat envy!

This is my 6-year-old's first solo ride. He was content @ 2.5 mph when this pic was taken. Within an hour, he was going 15-20 mph!

A Cobalt bow rider like a 242 is my dream boat. Cobalt's reputation is well deserved. I want this one soooo much but not in the budget...

Whatever you do, don't go look at it!!! If you do go look at it, definitely don't go drive it!

Some photos from this summer. Been having a great time on the boat with the family.

Long Beach in Centerville, MA - 2 miles of beach to ourselves

We headed to Martha's Vineyard for a day in June, and tied up to Owen Park town docks in Vineyard Haven.
Image

Charles W. Morgan, in Vineyard Haven on Martha's Vineyard, an amazing site to see. Couldn't board ship because of crazy long lines and limited time on island.

Image

Image

Went to the Vineyard again this weekend, and saw this beauty anchored off of Edgartown Light.

Image

We moored in Oak Bluffs this trip, and when we walked back to the harbor, there was a black late 80's Liberator tied off the starboard side of my boat, but bu the time I got the camera out of the bag, it was gone. Was really cool to see the two boats together rafted.

Went from Lake Couchiching, in central Ontario to Georgian Bay last week. There are four locks to pass through on the Severn section of the Trent-Severn waterway to get there - with 45 all together if you did the whole route. One of the more interesting locks is the Big Chute Marine Railway. With my 348 already loaded, you can see another large boat (48 footer?) loading behind me here.
Image

Here is a picture from our boat, looking forward. Look carefully to see how high you are above the trees, and the distance the railway travels to get you from one side to another. It always feels like your boat will slide forward and out of the slings, but the straps hold you tight as special attention is given to lift you from your "sling" locations. I think this is a one-of-kind system in North America.

Image

Here is a picture of the railway I "borrowed" from the web.
Image

Then on to Rawley Resort, just before Lock 45, and Georgian Bay - a quiet night.

Image

Up to Parry Sound for a day
Image

A couple of days exploring the hinterland with other boaters was great fun.

Image

Image

and finally we returned to Orillia - we are stopped here at Lock 42 on the way home.
Image

Get some more gas have some more fun!

We've done that trip a few times too, and I can second the fact it's a beautiful scenic ride between Georgian Bay and Orillia using the Trent Severn Waterway. If anyone ever visits Central Ontario and Georgian Bay you have to make sure you check it out. Here's a shot of us heading the other way, up the railway, getting dropped into the bottom end of the Severn River.

cheers

...and the next lock, Lock 43 -Swift Rapids, is also "engaging", if for no other reason, it's sheer size. It has a drop / rise of about 50 feet. The thunderous booming sound of the doors closing and being back-filled with water will scare the uninformed into believing the end is near - but it is just the sounds of an old, yet reliable and safe system. Check the scale of the lock by viewing the size of the people ahead of us in the small boat - taken a few years ago.

Weekend on the lake. Found our new go to spot. A nice large sand bar with a nice protected low traffic cove. The bar is roughly 20' wide and does a crescent moon arc for about 75yards. The bar is ankle to knee deep and rapidly drops off to over head instantly on both sides. Super clean and clear water with no clay. I am I love with this new spot.
