If you have a built in GPS in your IPAD, then it should work fine in a boat. Us airplane guys have to use a separate receiver placed up by the windshield because the metal roof blocks too much signal.

The iPads do not have a true GPS receiver it is a triangulation gps. It is not sati lite based. That is the main reason airplanes need the receivers the same as what I am buying as I have no ell signal on my wifi ipad. The garmin glo is a true multi satellite receiver unlike cell phone triangulation.

I thought the 3G Ipads did have GPS, but not the WiFi-only model. Don't ask me though, I'm an android guy.

It has a receiver but it is a 1hz receiver where good gps true units have a 10hz.. The 1hz will not keep up with topo or detailed maps. Also the 10hz is more accurate.

Well eventually I'm going to get out of bed and go cruise around on the boat. No rush it's a lazy hot Sunday.

just won a 3" suction large RAM Mount with phone Xgrip. Brand new in box. for less than half of retail.. WIN!!!

waiting on RAM to email back answering Q's about which adapter is best for the chart plotter iPad mini in life proof case. they have 2 that will work but i want the strongest most secure. and if the suction will hold or do i need to get a surface mount plate that i can thru bolt to the dash and use a 9" arm.

I will test the new mount and the New iPhone 6 with Navionics USA when both arrive. both due in this friday.

Got home and started mowing with the new 52 inch cut Gravely Zero Turn. That's one bad Kawasaki powered machine...I finished a little over 2 acres in time to join football game right before half time. Good game too....not bad for a monday

been working not his and that at the office all day. I was able to fit in some time to look at side and front curtain design and material.. i Have devised the plan of attack and how i want my 3 sided inclosure to be.. Now to source the zippers and i will order material at the same time that i order the materials for the interior remodel to same on chipping.. I have to say that I am almost as excited for the 3 sided enclosure for storms as i am for the entire new interior.

well I cannot wait for this weekend to play with my new Ram mount iPhone holder and the new iPhone 6 with my Navionics loaded.. I am sad that i still have to wait on a few things before i can play with the iPad chart plotter setup..

Non boat owners really need to read this thread. We spend all week repairing/maintaining/upgrading just for one Sunday Funday.
