When I replaced mine years ago I made a bracket out of aluminum stock bent at a 90* angle. I mounted the pump and switch on the horizontal leg and the vertical leg gets attached to the bulkhead just behind the gas tank. Two screws removed and the whole thing lifts out for service. How hard world it be for the rocket scientists at these boat companies to make that standard. Instead they hide it under the engine. Who cares about getting the last qt of water out when you can't reach the damn pump?
Agreed entirely; they fit a load of stuff before the engine is fitted with no though of serviceability. Just like cars I'm afraid though ! The dismantling required to fit a new clutch to my car defied belief.
Even if having the bilge pump under the engine made sense, they could have used push and half turn fasteners; but no, the inevitable soft 302 stainless cross head screws with screwed up cross so no grip to remove them easily ! A hex heat bolt would have worked a lot better, they are readily available ( used for roofing).
