Weathers not been so good , haven't used the boat too much. I have the Schumacher XCS15W Charger. I connected it up and it gives a reading battery is 75%, so I put it on charge at 3 amp rate. I intend to leave it overnight so it will go into trickle mode when its done. Now reading the literature that came with the charger it says When using for Marine (Boat) use, REMOVE the battery. Is this a safety precaution in case of fuel vapors and possible sparks.

I've never taken the batteries out to charge them, as long as you have no fuel leaks there should be no problem. The big group 27 dual purpose batteries I have are heavy no way I am lifting them out just to charge them lol....

ONLY marine rated chargers are ignition proof. (In general terms.)

BUT, I have read and discussed this with others. That do not use a car charger on a boat that is in the water. It will cause a electrolysis problem. In other words, cause things like your our-drive to corrode faster than it should.

I do know Clubs and Marinas that have banned them. I have done web search and can not find anything that really states why this could happen. The only thing I can think of is, when on shore power your on baord charger is using the galvanic isolators that is in line with the A.C. panel.

AGM batteries can go the whole winter with out a charge.

It's a 2008 H200 4.3GXI. I bought it new in 2010. It still has the original battery, I guess it's living on borrowed time now, although I have not had any problems with it.
I did charge it with the standard setting on the charger and it was giving 75% reading before charging. When replacing it can I use an AGM battery, I don't know what's in there now, the manual does not give any info other than 650cca, and whats the best to use when replacing, it has an Interstate Battery since new.
I am going to have a secondary battery installed next spring so we can use the radio without fear of non starting.

There should be a date on the battery and to what type of battery it is.

There are many ways to install a 2nd/house battery. Some better than others.
