I'm hoping they will start support warranty work. My 2007 Vista 358 continues to have 6' long stress cracks running down both starboard and port sides of the hull. They fixed it cosmetically twice under warranty, but it's a manufacturing defect that causes the cracks to keep coming back. Last call to Recreational Boat Holdings, left me hanging. They won't honor the warranty because of the previous bankruptcy. So I'm left with a "Lemon" of a hull problem. Definitely holding off on my desired purchase of a Vista 435 upgrade. I'd hate to leave the Four Winns Family, especially since this is my third one! We love the boat, but this seems like it's going to be an expensive and frustrating issue to deal with.

Paul,

Just curious, do you winterize the vessel and cold store it over the winter? Reason I ask, is I had a friend with a 98' 278 Vista and he cold stored it. He had 4-6 ft cracks on both port and starboard sides on 2 occasions. The were always noticed in the spring.

I had a theory that there may have been water trapped somehow between stringers that froze over the winter and did the damage. Not sure how or why, and again it was/is only a theory on my part.

Thought I would throw it out there.

Jeff,

Good challenge. I hadn't heard of that happening before. I don't think that this is my problem, however I do store the boat on blocks in the marina parking lot. Previous warranty repairs did not identify any water issues and the last repair was completed in the spring and it was re-cracked by the end of the summer.

Since I just had the boat hauled, I had a professional surveyor examine my hull. He attributes the continued cracking due to improper construction. Likely lacking stiffeners, improper glass work, etc. I'll submit the surveyor's report and take another run at the warranty. Unfortunately, I see a lawyer in my future.

It's a damn shame. We absolutely love the boat and the original dealer (they no longer carry Four Winns since the bankruptcy) and Four Winns treated me well with the original warranty repairs. The plan to move up to a 435V when the kids get out of college in 3 years is quickly fading. I'm not sure I have a 4th Four Winns boat in my future, based on this experience.

I hope all works out favorable for you. Unfortunately I don't think the post bankruptcy company has any legal obligation, but the good will would definitely go a long way.

If it is truly a strucural issue, I would think there would be other 358 owners with similar issues.
