Back in May of this year I posted that a cleaning company seemed to have lost our 328 Vista's Zippered Mattress Covers. According to a local Four Winns Dealer our boats "Admiral Gold" fabric is no longer available.

Looks like we need to go the custom route and as such we wish to upgrade both the V-Berth and Aft Cabin mattresses. For some of you guys in Ontario with Vistas that simply added a good quality foam over the existing mattress can you let me know where you purchased the foam from? Also, if you totally replaced the mattresses and are happy with the quality and price I'd like that lead as well. I'm thinking due to the bulk of the mattresses it makes sense to try and purchase somewhere between Toronto and Windsor in Ontario.

Thanks,
Mike.

Hey Mike,
You can try " The Foam Store", in Kitchener, they may be able to help you out. I bought a memory foam topper there for my 248 which is now in the aft on the 328 and it has held up really well. We have had it for 5 seasons now.
Also friends of mine had a Foam mattress made for the front berth but last I checked they were having issues with mold on the bottom side of it, they got it in Toronto. I can find out where. If your interested in that. Let me know how you make out. I think I might get a memory foam topper from the foam store in Kitchener for the front berth. I will be going up north to get my cushions in the new year to get them to cut it exact

I bought my memory foam topper from Overstock.com. Couldn't beat the price locally.

Thanks guys for your replies. I have sent pictures of our existing V-Berth and aft cabin areas to two different places that will quote on replacing the zippered mattress covers and current mattresses. I have asked for the zippered mattress covers and foam to be priced separately. I do want good quality materials to be used for both.

I want the work to be done over the winter so both V-Berth and Aft cabin are done before spring arrives.

I will follow up with how the finished job turns out.

Mike.

A bit late, but....we added a 3" memory foam from Costco (the blue one) and are very happy with it. It was enough to stop your hips from bottoming out, and is very comfortable. We slept on it for 16 nights in a row this summer and had no complaints. I think we paid around $150 for the king size which covered all of the vberth except a tiny corner where you feet go, which had to be cut as a small separate part. They include a cover, so it all get's held together. The added bonus is if you don't like it, they will take it back (assuming you try it before you cut it of course!

One of the first things we did was have a custom mattress made for the V berth. Probably the best investment we made!

Hey MichaelB good to see your posting and thanks guys for your replies.

I will be attending the Toronto International Boat Show this Saturday January 10th, so I will see if any local vendors are there that do mattress work. Have reservations to spend that night at the Sheraton Hotel. Anybody else attending on Saturday? Probably should start a new thread, but I'll just ask here.

Mike.

Fortunate to have tickets supplied by my local dealer in the past should call and see if can still get them for this year.

My insurance company (for boat insurance) has supplied me with free Toronto Boat Show tickets in previous years as they had a booth at the Toronto Boat Show but they are not at the Toronto Boat Show this year so I bought two tickets through Maple City Marine for half price. I'm guessing (Jus Laxin) that Maple City would be the local dealer you are referring to. With your recent boat purchase they might even give you tickets at N/C. :)

Mike.

Free tickets may be a sign that I paid too much

Going Sunday, Saturday was just too busy at home.

Have a good time at the show and suggest keep your check book and credit cards at home so my has told me to do.

Our 328 Vista is currently hibernating on blocks under shrink wrap. Would anybody know what the factory thickness of the aft cabin and V-Berth mattresses would be?

Ours is under wrap as well, but I'm pretty sure they are 4".

Have you checked here for replacement fabricshttp://greatlakesskipper.com/ They have a large selection of Four Winns fabrics and although they may not have your exact one at least you know if you pick another one it will be of the same quality.
Here's some Four Winns specific fabrics

Thanks "Weather and "Bliss36" for your recent posts. Just found out from Four Winns on Friday that although Four Winns can confirm they did not fabricate our factory upgraded "Admirals Gold" interior in house they likely know the vendor that did. Four Winns further advised that the computer program used to fabricate our 328 Vista's aft cabin and V-Berth zippered mattress covers should be available. We would need to pick a current Four Winns fabric and then new replacement zippered mattress covers could be fabricated to the original factory sizes.

So early next week Four Winns said they would call me back to confirm if their vendor could do this. If they can then I think I would pick an interior fabric, get them to make up new zippered mattress covers and then purchase good quality new foam to go in the new zippered mattress covers. Since insurance should cover the cost of the zippered mattress covers, my cost would be purchasing the new foam. Since I have our current foam, I wouldn't imagine it should be too hard to use our current foam as a template to cut new improved foam sections?

This approach would save going the completely new custom route.

My wife and I spent the weekend in Port Huron and checked out the foam mattresses available at Kohl's. They have a decent selection of various types of 4" foam but even though Kohl's sale pricing was 50% off, the mattresses were very close to the more local "Foam Store" pricing mentioned in earlier post.

Just a follow up to close out this thread. We ended up going to a place called "The Foam Centre" in Burlington, Ontario. We took our existing aft and V-Berth Foam to them to be used as templates for new foam. We upgraded the foam quality in both beds and increased the foam thickness in the V-Berth to 6 inches. Had new zippered mattress covers made up for both the new aft and V-Berth foam and had them fabricate a custom fit quilted mattress cover for the V-Berth. My son is really happy with the comfort of his new aft cabin bedding and after this past weekend with sleeping on the boat for the first time this season, my wife and I are glad we did the upgrade to the boat's bedding as well.
