Got the wiring ran from the fuse block, under the floor in the ski locker and over near the radio for the new usb charger. Drilled the hole and mounted that. to do for that project - secure it, add some split loom to protect it and connect. The wiring in the ski locker fits into a channel in the top that had plenty of room, so not too worried about it wearing through, but will run the split loom and secure it to be sure.

Then to install the fishfinder/depthfinder. Found out the mounting plate is too long to fit right next to the transom shield, have to trim an inch off both ends to get it to fit, but not a problem. Will cut it and sand it down, then install it and the transducer. 3m 5200 and ceacap for it should be here this week, but will get the holes predrilled this week to make that easier.

Then to track down that power steering leak. Thought I had a fuel leak, smelt fuel but then got in the boat and smelled nothing. Then I realized I got in right over the fuel fill. Is that normal? I figured it was just venting a little, checked throughout the boat, smelled nothing in engine compartment, nothing noted in bilge.

Yes it is normal to get a whiff of gas when passing by your fuel tank vent. Especially when your face is pretty close to it, as would happen when the boat is on a trailer.

my biggest current challenge is the fuel vent is next to the fuel filler inside the swim platform. And my cover is a full cover that covers the platform.. so in my winter renovations i think that i am going to relocate the fuel vent to the hull side so that it is just below the rub rail and outside of the cover.. ON hot summer days if i have a full or fairly full tank the fumes under the cover will make you dizzy if the boat has been under cover for a week or 2.. and i am not a fan o this..

Just a suggestion, but you might be better off venting your cover to let the fumes out. The option of moving the vent closer to the water just means you are that much closer to allowing water to get back into the gas tank.

well the vent that i want is minimal water entry and with a 90pointing up and a loop as you are supposed to install. Water will not enter the fuel tank..

AS for venting the cover.. the fumes seem to travel up the slope of the cover and accumulate in the cockpit..

the only solution that i can decide on is adding a vent to the cover.. i hate to cut into a brand new custom cover but I also do not want the fumes damaging the new interior..

this is the only product that i have found that seems logical, but i am weary of the water that it may let in when it is a windy rain storm,,

That was what I figured, but thanks for the answer!

I am glad you have considered a type of fuel vent suitable to the location you are considering.

As for the cover vent, I hear ya on not wanting to cut into a new one. But, how excited are you to drill a hole in the side of your boat?

cutting cover won the toss between hull and cover.. lol.. i will just replace the fuel vent and filler with SS as planned and adding 3 cover vents: bow, windshield, stern. I feel that a triple setup of cover vents will be more beneficial overall than moving fuel vent to the gunnel. As the cover vents will vent the: fuel vapors, moisture, heat, farts, smells, etc. and overall be better time and investment i feel.. Plus they are $15 each so it is a no brainer to me. PLUS i am not happy with he cover sports that i have now and have switched to bent PVC while working not he FLOOR as i cannot use center keel cover supports at present.. BUT THE pvc pisses me off..
