Since I recently got a Ski Doo Mach Z 1000, I picked up a Ski Doo Formula 500 for the wifey cuz riding double really sux! She's never driven one and my biggest concern was, if she didn't like it, this would be a big waste of money. This weekend I found out. She loves it!

I might have to change my board name.

Getting ready for winter storm Juno.... Got gas for the generator just in case ....
A foot to 2 feet and it could reach 3 feet with drifts...

Hope it's enough for the generator and a snow blower.

Good luck to you, it sure looks like a doozie of a storm!

LOL. Its gonna be epic. I have 20 gallons of gas for the genny which will last about 4 days if we don't use it all the time, like during Sandy. The snow blower is a little 5 hp Toro with a Suzuki 2 stroke so it doesn't use much gas.
Since Sandy when PSE&G took over the electric distribution system on Long Island I have seen them do much more tree trimming then when LIPA had it. That is our issue, we are a coastal region exposed to wind with a lot of trees. No floods for us, too high up but lots o wind....

Is it weird I always thought blizzards were fun? I had an oil burning furnace and a wood stove for backup/emergency heat with wood stored in the attached barn.

It's funny you'd be amazed how many people living in Florida do not prepare for anything. The only natural disaster we don't get is volcanoes. I like to think us New Englanders are a little smarter in terms of survival.

It might be the start of a busy week. My landlord gave me the green light to start putting together a quote of what's needed to redo the kitchen. They will pay for the parts but the labor is on my dime (I'm doing it). I'm okay with that though, because that means I get a new kitchen. The plan is to just use Home Depot's pre-made/finished Hampton Bay cabinets and formica countertops in some corresponding color. Nothing high end, but if you seen my current kitchen you'd understand my desperation. It's small, basically the whole upgrade will cost them one month's rent and they're cool with that.

Here's the question.

White or Wood cabinets? They're currently an off white formica now just cheap and falling apart with a light blue countertop. Might stick with white to keep it feeling fresh and airy. The flooring is travertine so white would go good with that.

Ok I apologize in advance to those of you back east about to get hit by Snowzilla...but this weekend was my kids (6 and 3) birthday party...and of course it was Frozen themed. We had the usual Frozen décor, snowman sandwiches, bounce castle etc., but I am not really one to follow the flow, It was 68 degrees that day, so I went to the mountain the night before and came back with this.

Image

dumped it in the front yard

and let them build a snowman.

Kids think I am dad of the year now.

Ah crap. Got ripped off by an ebay seller. Ordered 8 lightly used insteon dimmer switches for my home automation. Guess they copied and pasted the description from the website. What I got in the mail was insteon dimmer switches, but from 2005! Version 2.5 of the product. We're on like version 8. They don't work with my Insteon controller. Now comes the pain in the ass process of trying to get a refund.

Sat down and did some serious number crunching tonight.

If I sell my Chaparral which saves me $140 a month marina costs, roughly $50 a month insurance costs, $120 a month in really expensive marina gas right there let's say $320 a month. When I go boating on the river I also stop at bars/restaurants. Usually $50 a day in bartab so that's $100 a month.

But it gets better. So I owe like 12k on my BMW. I use some money from the boat sale pay the BMW off. There goes $380 a month car payment.

Now I'm saving $800 a month by selling my boat, I still have a jet ski for adventures, and I can buy a cheap pontoon for my lake that doesn't need insurance, slip fee, and uses $2/gal gas.

I dropped the price to 15k on craigslist. To be 100% honest if I got 12k and just paid off the car I'd be 100% happy. Just by selling it today for 12k would be like if I sold it in April for 15k. Operation dump boat has begun.

If you're wondering.... why the sudden movement to save money? I think a contract to buy a townhouse next door to mine that I'm renting will be accepted. I want to do everything in my power to have it paid off within 6 years. 6 years of a jet ski and pontoon to have a paid off 3/2 lake front townhouse? Yeah I can do that.
