Hey Chris there's nothing wrong with over thinking especially over something like this because once you moved forward and it's done your stuck with it for a while. I did the same before I reupholstered our cabin. I decided to do the cabin with the same off white and tan vinyl as the exterior seats. My reasoning was when you came aboard the exterior looked the way it is from the factory I didn't want the interior to look out of place or too 2014. Considering the boat is a 1996. This way the inside matches the outside. If it gets wet no big deal and easy to clean. And btw I still wish I just went all tan due to the white walls and ceiling but I'm very happy with my choice.

Original FW fabric is all over ebay. I did not see your style, but there are others if you want to "keep it in the family" so to say....

Difficult to say really mate, but if it's thick(er) then it may be ok... Will it get that wet, as it's in the Cabin itself? do you guys have cold, wet, humid winters where mold could accumulate?
Good job on the repairs though pal, looks great. I'm mid way through upholstery on mine so will have to start a thread.

Been talking with the admiral who really likes this fabric pattern. Although we are in a very dry climate, and it's in a cabin that never sees daylight and only rarely sees a wet kid. The truth is that our cabin gets used as a storage locker for our camping/day trips almost every weekend. The amount of gear we sit on this cushions and the weight and sharp edges of say a folding beach chair or ez-up canopy makes me believe that we need a more durable fabric in there.

I think I'll keep looking.

702Steve, I see what you are saying but honestly the deck upholstery in 1996 was a nice white/grey/red...I think it still looks modern...but what they did in that cabin looked like grandmas couch from the 50's! I have no idea what they were thinking...even the wood rails they attached to stop things from rolling off shelves they made a very light pink?? I guess they assumed the man would be at the helm and his grandma would be down below in the galley..lol.

Using the microfiber was the best decision of my life. SOO comfortable.

I would think a nice soft vinyl would be the best like the new boats. I love that ours has vinyl rather than fabric. Spills or wet clothes don't bother. A beach chair on the other hand like you said might be a rip on any fabric.
We have fabric in the aft bed but that doesn't matter since it always has a cover over it.

I don't think I would ever consider vinyl out here. I know it's an enclosed cabin, but it gets over 100 here most days during the summer...the seats on deck always have to be covered you can't touch them...I wouldn't want to be sleeping on that in the cabin..it would be so hot.

My stingray has vinyl in the cabin. Talk about sweat city. Need fabric.

What we do is put a mattress pad on the when we plan to sleep over. It also takes out the creases between the cushions when you convert the dinette to a bed. It's actually quite comfortable for sleeping. Also, add a mattress pad in the aft cabin where it is clothe cushions.
In 100 degrees you might stick to the vinyl.. LOL!
It also gets hot in the cabin until the AC can catch up but I still prefer the vinyl in the cabin on hot days than itchy clothe. The vinyl in the cabin is different from the vinyl in the cockpit. It is softer, more like a house couch. I had to open the cushions to see if it wasn't leather it is so soft. And no sun hits the cabin cushions so they don't get hot like the cockpit.

I don't have the link anymore, but I just googled microfiber couch fabric and purchased 10 yards. This is not where I purchased from but you get the idea.
http://www.diyupholsterysupply.com/psyard.html

Microfiber/faux suede/whatever you call it is polyester. Water doesn't harm it hence why i went with it. Feels 100x better than "outdoor" fabric. I mean if it's good enough for couches that receive tons of daily abuse it's good enough for my boat interior that might get sat on once a month.
