^^^^^^ ha ha ha.. yea those are supports in the tank.. the tank is very rigid and the holes make for great grab handles while heaving that big awkward bastard around..

now that the snow and ice and cold are gone. The work has resumed. Still dipping too low at night for Fiberglass work as the 30-40s will cause stress fractures in the resin. SO for now i will get all the wood work done so that i am all ready to do a big glass day on a weekend day out in the sun so it can cook..

last night i got the new rear bench seat pieces cut. I will cut the top and hole today... the internal floor square footage is 9.63 sqft and the volume is 12.03 cuFt of added new dry storage that was dead space before. I will be able to fit one or multiple coolers in the seat along with bags and whatnot crap that the women always feel they need.....

VERTICAL CLEARANCE.

Looking at your pics, your boat could really benefit from the modern Four Winns emblems on the side.

OEM 3D chrome 2015 style. Also ditch the pinstripes, you'll make it look 10 years newer.

If my boat doesn't sell this month I'll be vinyl wrapping it solid dark blue on the side to hide the early 2003's stylish gelcoat design and going with modern emblems. Basically just a thick band all the way around like all new boats have. What ages a boat is the cosmetic styling, not the hull design what has been relativity the same for the past 20 years.

i think that the stripes cover the Gel transition.

And yes i have been considering ditching them as they are fairly beat up in the bow area, and thought was to do a single black stripe at the intersection of the gel colors if the meeting line is not true..

OK SO a few new questions have arose.

see this hinge

Image

Image

MY BOAT has a kind of busted spot on the starboard side (red arrow) and a brass round fitting on the PORT (picture tonight) i am thinking this is some sort of offset hinge to counter the geometry of the stern radius and allowing the hatch to not bind.

Image

i think this is the hinge..

Image

NOW on the 1998 it looks as though they went to a center keel hinge system as i invisioned using and posted a few back in my redesign. As that is the only logical place that i can engineer it to function properly.

Image

and see how NOW it makes since that someone removed the rear hinges and added a cockpit side hinge and simply attached it to HALF of the back rest.

and from the official Brochure.

Image

NO CENTER HINGE LIKE THE 1998

I would go with this:

Don't just browse for Four winns hinges. Check other brands out. As long as they hinge and are SS you're fine. Heck I'm pretty sure you could hop on over to the local boat dealer and find a new boat with some perfect hinges you need..

If you don't want rib pain working on the engine, lift the whole thing not just the top. Might require stronger hinges.

rib and ability to swing feet in the engine bay is main thought.. talking with buddy we looking at about 7-10# give or take for the backrest to be attached.

Im just planning to be to this point this week i am hoping and need to order things and make a plan for materials if i change course from original drawings and design.

My 245 Sundowner has those rear mounted hinges like in the tan pictures. They extend rearward over the swim platform and it opens to the front. I have u - wrap seating and the sun pad is only about a foot deep. My battery switch and hour meter are under there.

My hinges are just pieces of angle that have a rounded end on the sun pad side and a bolt for a pivot at the rear.
