I have an OMC 5.0 EFI in which a few of the cooling hoses are starting to show their age after 22 years. Some of the hoses are no longer available for purchase and what could be used for a suitable substitute? The main hose from the engine water circulating pump to the thermo housing is a big one that is not available. Could I just use standard automotive flex hose, or go for a full silicone reinforced style hose? Not too confident the reinforced silicone hose wil be able to make the bends.

If you can't find anything that will work, Sea-Way Marine in Washington State has a stockpile of OMC parts. You might try calling them with the part #s of what you need. These raw water cooled systems do not operate under pressure as a closed system does so automotive hoses will work fine if they fit right.
