I still plan on replacing my crappy plastic vents with these SS vents at some point:

That was my plan too, except when I checked my boat both the vents for fuel are p-trap vents...so I don't believe those will work, and I cannot find stainless ones with a p-trap except this black plastic with chrome paint look...

And that looks like it's not flush mount so I won't pull the trigger until I know for sure what is going to work.

A bit more progress here, but i've been slack with the pictures. Will have to take more.

I've changed the P-trap vents Chris, i just went with the black plastic type with the stainless cover (Same style as what we already have on the boats, rather than the flush). Would have loved a flush vent but i haven't got the time to mess around - that and they came from your side of the pond, the flush ones were so much more expensive!!!
They look ok though, and i'm sure that the appearance of three small fuel vents is the least of my worries, ha ha.
Will get some pics at the weekend for you guys.

All polishing done now, inside and out.
The Engine compartment lid was a bit springy in the middle so i cut the back, scooped out all the balsa wood, cut a sheet of 3/4" marine and sent it to be reglassed.
I know it's been mentioned that FW cut corners on wiring etc, but they've certainly made some strange (and unexcusable) decisions all round in my opinion. The Engine compartment lid was one, the silly gasket where the table mounts just wasn't waterproof and the water had gone in from there. None of the hinge/fixings into this were 'properly' sealed either, with rot starting in all places that hardware was mounted. Obviously the past neglect of this boat didn't help, but neither did the factory finishing.
I also noticed that the two drains from the Anchor locker were "sealed" at the bottom with grey gelcoat, but at the top of the hole were not - you can still see the core!
The brackets that hold the side pieces on (where the throttle lever is and the one the other side) are made of Powdercoated mild steel, and have started to rust, but the screws that hold them in are stainless.
Also, the whole of the back seatrest is made of a composite plastic board, but all the bases are just Ply.

Just my observations of course, but does seem like shortcuts were taken all round on the money saving/finishing front! :?

Anyhow, a couple of quick pictures:

Backrest during assembly:

New logos embroidered by a local firm for me (old vs. new):

I will get some decent pics when i put the seats back in (This weekend/early next week).

I pulled the drive earlier on in the week to be presented with an unexpected issue - the bellows had leaked:

Image

I've new bellows ready to fit, the U-joints although rusted on the surface are smooth and there's no play so will probably just grease them up and leave them be.
The oil in the drive was milky however, so i've asked the guy who pulled the boat out for me (VP trained) to change the prop seals and also the rear input seal, rather do both and do it once than have to pull it out again.
The gimble bearing is stuck solid. not even a 20lb slide hammer will budge it so we will need to drill it to remove, depending on weather this will be done in the next couple of days.
Hopefully this work will be done by the weekend and i can change the bellows, Trim pipes (showing signs of wear) and then refit the drive.
All stitching now done on the seats, just need to refit the back seat and back seatrest vinyl to the foam and then refit.

Hopefully, weather depending, i'll be nearly done in a couple of weeks... 8)

More soon...

Yes FW and all the boat makers do take shortcuts that you will only spot when you do your own work.
On mine I found some really bad ones as in:
Stringers not glassed all the way up, only half way the rest was raw wood.
Deck stapled down with hundreds of nasty rusty staples
Not one hole drilled for seat mounting was sealed
Crappy carpet held moisture on said unsealed holes and staples and rotted the deck.
All of that was fixed in the rebuild. Every hole was sealed. NO CARPET deck was glassed and then gelcoated in non skid gelcoat as it should be. This is one place where the newer boats are actually better, as long as the workmanship is good. Better construction techniques and materials.

The drive bellows, yes it happens. This is why I advise anyone with one of these to get a drive jack and pull it once a year. I have had these bellows last as long as 10 years though.

What is the best place/price to buy a drive jack? I made mine out of 2x4, plywood, and castor wheels. But while it worked, it was difficult and cumbersome to use.

The work you are doing on the boat is happening fast! In no time, it is going to be show room ready!! I love seeing all of the pictures and I am sure it has been a lot of hard work. Sorry for the hijack.

It's been a while, got loads done but not as many pictures, just been so busy.
Getting there though, she's going back in the water later this week so almost there. And i'm glad - really could do with a break from this...!!! I'm sure i'll appreciate it when the good weather gets here, but it's been flat out for a couple of months now and i need a break.

No worries about the slight hijack Hutch :)

Anyhow, Out of interest Chris, these are the Black P-trap vents with stainless covers, they don't look too bad:

Image

Outdrive is now all serviced and back on New Gimball bearing, New bellows, New Trim Cylinder pipes, Trim Cylinders rebuilt with new Seals. Prop seals changed along with gear Selector seal, U-Joints greased, Oil Changed and new anodes.
Hopefully that lot will see it right...!!
Gave it a lick of paint too, looking loads better now!!

Image

Front seat all recovered:

Image
(slight wrinkling on corners is annoying me a little though, so i might try and sort that before i put it in. Either that or i'll just have to deal with it!)

First bit of upholstery back in:
Image

Just the front and rear seats to put in now and finish the new tonneau cover, and i'm there (for now).

More soon.... 8)

Well it was a good weekend, managed to get a few things ticked off the list.

New stickers:

Image

Would have preferred the raised emblems but couldn't find a realistically priced set anywhere, with the boat going back in the water i had to get something sorted so mirror chrome vinyl will have to do for now - i can always change em in the future.

Back seat done:

And the reverse:

Image

And then i got them all in. They fitted, thankfully!!

Looking good. seats look almost yellow in that last pic, they're not, btw - but the soft cream does look quite good i think.

It's back in the water now, i do have a small engine issue - in the fact that it's overfuelling somewhat when warm. Starts fine from cold, no issue at all but lots of black smoke and also black soot on the transom/water most of the time. need to get this sorted.

I'm Not 100% sure what's going on but i need to test the Coolant Temp sensor and IACV i think for my first call, unless anyone has any other ideas.

Anyhow, not too much left to do, mostly cleaning - carpet cleaning and also cleaning the bilge and all cupboards/storage bins etc, and the teak on the back, but the worst is (hopefully!) done now.....

More soon, no-doubt.... 8)

Wow, she is looking good! I felt good that I replaced the trailer light and put the new vents in this week. (Of course the new trailer light doesn't work  )

Cheers guys.

Chris, top job - they look great, certainly better that the corroded originals that we both have!
I found it easier to take the speaker out on mine, and stick my hand through to change em rather than doing it from in the engine bay.

Top work! 8)

Yep that's how I had to do it too. And a second set of hands would have helped...I had to jam a big wrench in to hold the p-trap then go to the outside of boat and carefully start the threads. In hindsight I think I should have bought the white ones...because the sun out here I think will fade that black plastic bad...time will tell...

Also to add...the absolute lowest price I found on them was amazon. I had to do a little digging to find the ones with free shipping http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001YXO148/ref=shptrk_scth

Yes, a second pair of hands definitely helps!!!
Got mine on ebay, from Florida. Only a week to get here too which wasn't too bad.
My water heater is busted too so need to get one of them. Again, cheaper on ebay shipped from the US rather than the UK Distributor... work that out!

And the black looks good mate - goes with the rubbing strip......
