Part way through boat interior renovations - replaced the fabric hull covers with nice vinyl, now I'm working on adding a third permanent bed(room) which will include massive storage in new cabinets, new 4.5' counter top with raised bar section and a twin (almost) mattress so my son and daughter can sleep in separate beds. Oh, and to do this, I've carefully removed the entire dinette - which was always just a catch all and extra counter space.

Good times!

Pulled the boat out of our lake for an adventure later today on Lake Nipissing. First time our boat will be in a foreign lake...pretty excited.

Yeah, it's been sitting in only Trout Lake for 4 seasons up to now because the family cottage is on Hemlock Island.

This season looks like it will hit Sturgeon Falls (today), Callander Bay, and Lake Temagami.

Weather looked iffy but went out anyway. Glad we did, calm water and no rain but was a bit chilly.

I swapped out my 26-pitch 3x3 props for 26-pitch 4x3. Mid-range is excellent but my max-RPM needs to be higher. I am going to drop down to a 24-pitch 4x3 sometime in the future. One of the caps is missing on one of the trim rams and the nut is extremely rusted. I was going to replace both but the nut began to disintegrate - looks like that will be a project for another day.

My in-laws sold their 1993 38' Carver this spring so we invited them out today. We had Brown's (a bar & grill on Harson's Island) for lunch since they had never been. Then we spent a few hours on Club Island (the new club we joined last week).

Boat was running great the entire time cruising along. However, when we made it back into the marina the boat stalled while I was backing up at idle. It restarted and did the same thing a couple times in a row. Luckily, we were right there at the dock so we were able to get it in. Pulled the boat out and put it on a maintenance rack. After a few minutes, I found that the crankcase vent hose going to the flame arrestor had popped off. Seems the plastic elbow cracked and no longer has a strong hold. We put the boat in the water and it ran great with the hose reconnected but ran rough when we disconnected it. Problem has been troubleshooted.

Now time to find the part. looked everywhere one line for the elbow. All of the schematics show the elbow but no part number is associated with it. When I search for the merc elbow, none of them have the same notch on top. I tried online everywhere but I just cannot find it. If anyone is bored and wants to look, it is a plastic elbow for the crankcase ventilation hose on a 2000 Mercruiser 454 Mag MPI. See pics below. I know, I need to clean the flame arrestor. The elbow is on the side of part 41 in the diagram here: http://images.jamestowndistributors.com ... /35348.png

Also, noticed the trim motor bracket was completely rusted to the point that only half of it is still attached to the boat. Ordered another one of those. I guess this is a common issue because stainless steel models are now produced.

I know this isn't the part you really want to see (still building the cabinets), but here is the before and after of the new vinyl.

I'll post pictures of the new bed once I get more completed.

Today is start the tear down and rebuild of this.

Image

I have two seized brake calipers. Warped brake rotors. Hogged out suspension mounting tabs and on and on. Only 2000 miles on it in two years with 40% of those miles being on road as it is street legal. VERY disappointed in Polaris build quality.

After I am done with the rebuild it will be of much better quality. Welding in stronger mounts and using better suspension components.

If there is any money left after the maintenance items are taken care of I am going into the motor for more power. Can never have enough right pedal when riding the two tracks here in Michigan. 70mph is fun, but I want 80mph and to get there a lot quicker.

I knew this looked familiar. I grew up on Silver Lady Lane many summers ago, water skiing all day for $10 worth of gas up and down One Mile Bay. Hemlock Island is directly in front of the cottage (near the sandbar every foreigner would run in to). I hope the boat launch at the Lands and Forest beach area is improved as I got stuck there several times removing my Doral Phazar. Brings back memories.

The boat launch is significantly worse...LOL! ...and I keep my eye open for both that sandbar AND the sunken island that claims lower ends at night...

Polished the visible parts of my trailer with some buff magic tonight while my little guy rode his bike. He peddled over and asked what I was doing. I sad " son this is called putting lipstick on a pig". He repeated me 3 times as he rode away. I think I really taught him something tonight.
