Not getting anything through the Raw Sea Water Pump. Stripped it and everything looks OK inside, rubber impeller blades are intact and very firm. I had had the outdrive off prior to the problem to replace bearings and hoses etc. and have taken it off again to check for blockages and dropped the lower section but nothing. Does the pump need to be primed in some way to operate or should it have enough suck to draw the water up. How critical is the impeller and should I replace it or has anyone any other ideas.

I think you will need to indicate the engine/ drive OEM and type before anyone can provide a reasonable answer.

If boat in a river the sand in the water can wear out the inside of the brass pump on the volvos. Happened to mine & couldn't figure out what was wrong. Took off the pump & brought it to the marina they took one look at it & knew it was wore out.
