Move this portion of my thread over here in hopes in getting more responses. Need some guidance from a few veterans.

I remove one of the exhaust risers to see what condition they were. Below are some pictures of what I can see on the inside. From my uneducated inspection it seems like the exhaust manifold looks OK and the riser looks questionable. I didn't see any rust inside of the gas only chamber of the exhaust manifold. Thoughts? Replace just the rise? Neither? These appear to be original to the boat so maybe 21 years is enough service and it is time to replace? I thought of doing the acetone leak check but then I am fearful of getting everything back together and then it rusting through in a year.

If what you see is surface rust and not chunks of rust flaking off then they may be OK. The important thing is to inspect the mating surfaces carefully after you scrape off the gaskets. If those are very deteriorated then you can get leaks. Clean off the gaskets and take a pic and post back....The fact that there are no rust trails inside the exhaust gas passage and you have no flaking rust is a good sign...

Boy those gaskets are sure hard to remove! Took much longer than I expected and I still have more to do to finish it off. Never the less the mating surfaces look pretty good. The risers still make me nervous...

Those manifolds look pretty good, and the risers don't look too bad either. But how do the risers look from where the water exits around the exhaust stub? They don't cost that much, so if you want the piece of mind, then change the risers and leave the manifolds.

The risers look OK where the water exits. I think for the piece of mind I could spend the $316 for a pair of Barr risers and know I made a good decision.
