I've never been a boater before, but my wife and I just bought a waterfront property on Georgian Bay. I found this boat at a local marine shop. They sold the boat new in 2008. Two years ago the owner forgot to winterize it and froze the motor. It only had 49 hours on it! The marine shop had it in storage since then and just recently, the owner decided he couldn't afford to fix it, so they bought it and put a new Volvo motor in it. I happened to walk in as they were testing the motor.... I bought it in the spot.

So now it's in winter storage and I am dreaming about getting out on the water...

Wow! Sounds like right place at the right time. Make sure they give you a guarantee at least till sea trial. Good luck and enjoy, looks great.

Definitely right place and time... I had no intention of buying a boat when I walked in. I just wanted to talk to them about what I should be looking for. But it was too good to pass up...

It's a reputable shop. The motor is warrantied for three years. They provided a list of all the work they did (most of which I don't have a clue about) and have confirmed they will look after anything that's an issue once it goes in the water.

Congrats! It's nice when deals fall in your lap like that. Now all you have to do is wait for the warmer weather. Plenty of time to gain some knowledge about boat.

Make sure you have a plotter and a sounder for GB, great place to boat, but lots of rocks in certain areas. I'm sure Giant's tomb island will become one of your favourites

A swim platform was one of my wife's requirements. I'm glad it has one as well. I've been reading your work log on Not Penny's Boat. Lots of work. It looks great.

I'm planning on using navionics, an iPad and a Garmin Glo for navigation. I'm north of Parry Sound on "Deep Bay" and the navionics maps for that bay are non existent, but I expect I will learn my immediate area fairly quickly. Hopefully before I find the rocks by feel.... My boat has the OEM depth gauge. Is that what you're referring to as a sounder? Or should I be looking to convince my wife I need another toy?

Ah, I was thinking a bit further south like Midand/Pentangushine. There is a sandbar at Giant Tombs that extends about 1/2 mile off shore.

Looks like you found a great boat.

Given the area you will be boating I strongly recommend joining your local Power and Sail Squadron. They are a great resource for boating education. The more you know, the more confident and comfortable you will be out there.

Cheers.
